I just pet her and she eats.

It's a comfort thing.
Like when mommy licked them as Kittens as they nursed.
Both my cats do the same thing.

Have you had her since she was a kitten? If so, did you (or the previous owner) reward her with food when she let you pet her? The behavior was probably inadvertently trained. In your cat's mind, petting is probably a cue to eat.

edit:
Ahh... I didn't think about Grumpy's answer. Your cat's mother probably trained her by licking her while suckling (as a kitten). Now that I think of it, our cat does it too.
