Atheists are people who do not believe in anything supernatural. No God. No Satan. No Ghosts. No Demons. No Magic. No Miracles. Everything that is, occurs naturally and without supernatural intervention.
As such atheists don't believe there is any God to intervene in the world on anyone's behalf or against anyone else. There is no God to protect his favorite human beings or smite his enemies.
Atheists also don't believe in an afterlife. No God sits on a throne welcoming believers into heaven and sending the non-devout packing off to hell. The only existence that we will ever know is the one we have now. Our only chance to love is our present life.
Atheists believe that life has no inherent meaning--only the meaning that individuals and cultures ascribe to it. Atheists by and large are moral creatures, however. Because we want ourselves and our loved ones to live in a peaceful world, and we cannot count on a supernatural being to create it, Atheists typically believe in humanistic values.

Let me educate you.
We are not "against god" because god does not exist.
We simply reject the childish and thoroughly asinine notion that such a being exists. That's all.
If you want to waste your time living your life according to a set of rules written by bronze-age jewish sheperds, by all means, enjoy.
But do NOT be surprised when we turn down the offer to do the same. We like to live in a little place called "reality". You may have heard of it. Perhaps you'll visit here someday...
And if you want to know why we feel the way we do about your religion, read 'djslinky77's answer. That's the kind of hypocrite that gives chrisitanity the reputation it has.

Not against god. Atheists just don't believe in God. There's a difference.
Atheists are just normal, regular people who live life without religion. They're just as nice as anyone else!
P.S. Don't listen to Tony below. Atheism is not a religion for the LAST TIME!! It's a belief that there is NO GOD.

Have you thought about looking up the definition in the dictionary?
I'll break it down for you: athiest - a=without theist= God or belief in God. Nowhere does hate enter into the definition.
They want the same things you or I want. A good job, a family, food, shelter, clothing, etc. They just believe praying for those things is a waste of time. Who's to say they're wrong?

Haha, you talk about them as if they were some kind of different species. But I was an Atheist since age 8. I am Agnostic right now. They don't do anything much different. They aren't against God, or gods, they jsut don't believe in one. Atheism is a religion, and has no big effect on life, in most cases. They live just like you and me. Being Atheist/Agnostic is lonely:-(.

Athiest are IGNORANT folks who believe that things just happen, people are just born and die and this is automatic. How can something could be created itself. Ignorance may be a blessing sometimes but being an athiest is knowingly denying God. All athiest also believe in God in their hearts but don't admit it. Guess who will they call for help if alone and in trouble with out any communication!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you know the answer

We are not "against God". If we were, that would imply we believed in god and then could not be atheist.
Similarly I could assert that as you practice your religion you are against Zeus. Would that make any sense?
I am against christianity and the concept of god. Both cause more destruction to our species as a whole then the benefit they provide on an individual basis.
Outside of my disbelief in your god, and my contempt for christianity and organized religion in general, I live a life no different than most others.

Atheists are not against god. Some reject the false ego god that we find in the bible, the koran, etc. In this case, they are actually getting closer to the real god of unconditional love by refusing to believe in what are false attributes of god (the concepts of hell, sin, guilt, etc.). Some atheists are very spiritual - they have a concept of god that is not theistic (not god as a person). Other spiritual atheists see god as symbolic for the oneness of everything and, therefore, wouldn't be against 'god'. Others, of course, define themselves in terms of being against religion -- and these are the problematic ones that probably cause some disappointment on your end.

They are not 'completely against god'. That's ridiculous! How can you be against something that does not exist?
Atheists are, for the most part, 'rational' people. For them, faith and belief don't work. Faith is a substitute for evidence. Belief is a substitute for knowledge. Neither faith nor belief are sufficient to sustain reason... they are only sufficient to sustain willful ignorance and delusion. Rational people require real evidence, and pursue real knowledge, rather than closing off their minds to such by way of faith and belief.
So, to put that another way, atheists do not find that there is sufficient evidence to support the idea that there is such a thing as a magical super-dude on the other side of the sky who made everything, and makes everything work. So, they do not BELIEVE that there is a god... or heaven... or hell... or Satan... or angels... or demons... or...
* a universe in which all that exists are the earth and heaven
* solid 'firmmament' structure (the sky) seperating the earth from heaven (terrarium earth)
* talking snakes (with legs) and donkeys
* shepherd staff turning into an asp
* demons chased out of people and into pigs
* friendly spirits
* evil spirits
* walking on water
* multiplying loaves and fishes
* food falling from the sky
* conception by a ghost
* people raising from the dead
* the sun stopping in its tracks
* parting seas
* people being bodily sucked up into heaven (which, by the way, lies on the 'other side' of the sky)
* world-wide flood that drowned the earth to a depth of 40 feet above the tallest mountain
* creating people from dust bunnies and ribs
* magical tree of knowledge
* god speaking from a burning bush
* ritual cannibalism, by eating god in the form of a cracker
They think that all that stuff is downright silly... and stupid... and quite irrelevant.
