I"m in the Air Force..and yes..you'll probably run about 2 miles in the Basic Training. I know that's about how many we ran every other day. People think we don't run but we do. I'm a cop and I run every other day of the week except for weekends.

Total, about 50 miles or so. If you're not cutting it, you'll run more for physical conditioning purposes. You'll easily do 1,000 situps and pushups, and probably a couple of hundred pullups.

In tech school, figure 15 miles per week. More if you're in a highly taxing field such as pararescue -- close to 50 miles per week for those folks.

To keep yourself in shape throughout your career, you should plan on at least 10 miles per week after that.

I'm in the army, and went to AIT on an air force post. On my first duty day there, we saw some formations running by. I swear to this day, the fastest group was slower than the slowest group we had at basic, and there were people falling out of the slowest group. I must say, however, I absolutely loved it wheh their NCO brought up the rear in his golf cart.
