Ricky, and how do you go about finding them??

2006-07-28 09:01:38 · update #1

JD, the motive is, I would like to know if you would automatically assume that a person is illegal or legal due to their personal relationship. How do you illegal hating people decide whom to hate? It is rather hard to be sure of a person's legal status.

h20dog, i would assume that the white person was american and legal of course to be in Mexico because the Mexican government isnt as anal about people coming in from other countries.

you're right fairyqueen, I apologize. I forget that there are alot of light skinned latinos. My husband is not one of them, he is darker than many black people and nearly everyone in his town in Mexico look the same. My point was, if you saw a light skinned American person and a hispanic foreigner together, would you think the hispanic person was legal?

So you are making the assumption that all latinos have brown skin? How do you know if someone is latino and who is white? My sister in law is fair complected, I am darker than her. I get mistaken for a Mexican. So you can't really tell by a persons skin if they are legal or illegal. No one knows just by looking at a person, they just like to assume since they look different from the norm.

it would depend on more than that, dear!
You want to trap those of us who answer into looking like prejudiced jerks.

If the latino could not communicate, had a majority latino work group, and such, i would assume illegality, for most of the group.

I say most, because there is often one legal who helps secure work/living quarters etc...

To recognize the established pattern of illegals, is nothing short of common sense. I would not assume an executive chauffeured in a Maybach is an illegal alien, but a bricklayer that rides in the back of a pickup with 7 others would receive that assumption, and more often than not, the assumption would, indeed be correct.
Stereotypes are not born in a vacuum nor are they invented by the opposition. the gruop that gets stereotyped invents the stereotype by a LARGE section of that group doing or being what the stereotype is or does.
The problem of stereotyping is, and I admit it, is that it CANNOT apply to all of that larger group.
Instead of blacks or whites or 'latinos' or whatever group being offended that they are stereotyped by other groups, they should get angry at those inside their OWN group that bring the stereotype view down on them, by acting EXACTLY as they are depicted!

I don't assume anyone is illegal. I used to assume that anyone who had been here a long time or had a regular job was automatically certified legal (until about April 28 of this year.) Since I learned how many are in my town and how many work 'regular jobs' I wonder now and then, though. I try not to, but the statistical fact is, I have to know some. I just don't know who they are.

I'd probably be more likely to assume they are legal.

In my experience, illegal Latino immigrants tend to stay among their own and don't have much social interaction with white people. They are also much less likely to be able to speak English, and it seems unlikely for two people with that level of intimacy to be unable to speak to each other.

This doesn't mean I would conclusively decide they were legal. I would just think it more likely. But for that matter, I wouldn't even care what their status was, if I happened to notice them.

I don't judge on race, and my only issue is with the prevalence of illegal immigration. You can marry/date whom you please as far as I'm concerned, but no number of heartfelt sob stories is going to change the fact that our immigration system is beyond broken, and that the only way to really deal with it all is to shut down the illegal part of it, which requires enforcement. This isn't about personal judgements, it's about seeing to it that the law is followed, and if not followed, then enforced. There's a lot of people from Mexico who are in the United States illegally, and that needs to change/stop.

I would tell the illegal they could do much much better.

I see this everyday that's not the concern. The concern is when they apply for a job, license, services, to rent, or buy homes, spot check by police, etc., that's when it becomes an issue, so far civilians don't have the right to ask for ID.

What is your deal? Why are you making this about race? I'm not. i want ALL illegal aliens gone. I don't care care if they are white, brown, yellow, green, or purple. I don care if they are single with no kids or married to a white American with 25 kids. I want them all out. Period.

I DON'T find them. It is not my job.... I have never suggested rounding them all up. My stance has always been no amnesty, enforce very strict laws on employers, and the situation will resolve itself.

That's like asking... If you saw a latino walking hand in hand with a white person, would you assume they had jello for lunch?

I would assume either they were married or dating. If I saw them crossing over a border, then yes, I would assume they were illegal.
