Excuse me, but you can't be an athiest if you say, "God bless." Come on! If you believe that you can ask for God to belss someone, how can you be an athiest?

Oh my god! you must be kidding me!

I say it as an expression, but often times i jokingly say "Oh your god!" instead.

Sure, you can... it's a cultural epitaph, not a religious one. Just like saying "Jesus H. Christ on a crutch" is not some kind of holy invocation... it is just an expression of profound annoyance.

Surely, you are not so dense as to think that religious people have some kind of copyright protection to various expressions that have roots in a religious context. This crap has been in the public domain for nearly 2,000 years re: Jesus... and lots longer for god, in his various incarnations. Besides... its all mythical, anyway, sos who gives a rat's ***?

It's just a meaningless figure of speech. Like "holy s***." No one is actually thinking of religion when they say these phrases.

Sometimes I might rarely even say "bless you" after someone sneezes. It doesn't even remotely mean that I believe in any superstitions regarding sneezes. I am merely trying to be polite by abiding with common customs.

I do actually. It's an act of rebellion on my part because when I was a kid my mom told me that to say 'Oh my God!' was to break the third commandment. (I think 'don't take the lord's name in vain is the 3rd)
So I never said it until I was an atheist. lol Funny I guess.

I say Oh my God all the time, and it pleases me that someone might find it offensive. I would never say God bless though.

Just an expression - like 'God Bless You' or Einstein saying 'God doesn't play dice' (in Einstein's case, 'God' is a metaphor for the universe and its mechanisms).

Some times.
Mostly "God Damn" though
or "Jesus Jumped Up Fuckin Christ"
I came from a religious house and old habits are hard to break.

I do not. If I did, it is just a phrase in the English language. You say atheist, and that does not make you one, so saying god does not make atheists believers.

Because it's human language. Same reason we say 'bicycle' when we talk about bicycles, and 'I mean' for hesitation, and inversion of subject and auxiliary for asking questions. We pick up the language around us and we use it. Doesn't mean anything more than that.

Jesus Christ, you mean there are words in this language that are forbidden to me, as far as I know a word is just a bunch of letters....if I don;t put any crap based belief into it, than that is all it is for me is a bunch of letters arranged together.

I do, but I also say God dammit and Jesus Christ when I am angry. Doesnt mean I believe they exist. Just like when someone says "Who bought you that new shirt", I will say Santa Clause. Doesnt mean I believe he exists.
