I'm a muslim but these kind of questions really damage the image of the religions which calls people to be decent.

Actually, it may be from a sincere desire to repress their pedophilic desires. They figure only kids turn them on, so they can never have a normal sex life, so they'll join the priesthood and God will keep them celibate. Unfortunately, it's not that easy to beat a mental illness like pedophilia.
Also, being in a position of power may make them feel like they won't get caught or punished.

Many of the pedophile issues with the church were priests who joined decades ago. In more traditional times, men were expected to marry and start families. It stands to reason that if you weren't turned on by a women, and marriage wasn't a real interest or option, you'd look to a vocation where marriage wasn't expected. And if you did lean in that direction, those young alter boys would just be too much temptation.

They don't need to marry, and have very good access to young boys in a trusted position. There isn't a good reason for celibacy in the Catholic church is there?

I think what happens is that when one's natural sexual orientation is taught as a sickness and that the creator of the universe is against it, the result is severe psychological distress and the mind looks for an escape. The same is true for heterosexuals who find that their religion makes sexuality into something sinful. They both find escape by embracing more fully the very system (e.g. catholicism and the christian ego god) that is the cause of the problem. Therefore, in these cases only, we get psychologically sick people whose sexual outlet becomes deviant instead of healthy. Get rid of the negative stuff about sex and orientation, and this stuff goes away.

They're not just in the priesthood....they're everywhere. And I do not believe they are necessarily attracted to the priesthood for that reason....at least not all. I believe in the powers of evil and I think when a person allows evil to ebrace their heart then they are capable of unthinkable things. Just my own therory.

Well, in a particular instance I think the cycle repeats itself. Here is a Catholic boy, molested by priest....keeps secret....grows up in silence thinking something is wrong with him, become a priest, repeats cycle....
In a general sense, pedophiles seek positions that are in control over children and that are "trusted" (examples: coaches, scout troop leaders, etc...)

I don't think the paedophiles are attracted to priesthood. I think that the fact that they are men living under ridiculous sexual restrictions and with little boys and their parents who trust them with their lives--this is what creates paedophiles in the church . . . not all of them, duh, but enough to be a huge issue.

pedophiles know that the church tolerates and covers up pedophilia in order to prevent damage to its image, also the religious can be very gullible and do whatever they are told. The Catholic church has a particular problem, as it prevents their priests from marriage resulting in the priest turning to this behavior to satisfy their sexual urges.

I don't even want to discuss that issue about paedophiles. I have a child myself and they make me sick!
