I do a lot of volunteer work at the school, I volunteer in each of my kids classrooms for an hour a week, I help out in the library, I am on the PTA & school site council.
I also use the time to go grovery shopping (so nice without having the kids along), run errands, clean, laundry, etc.
Once a week, I meet my mom friends for coffee and once a month I meet my working mom friends for lunch.
It is amazing how fast the days pass.
Now that I have a new baby - some of the days will be spent goin gto mommy and me classes and catching up on sleep.

I have been a stay at home mom for 9 and a half years. I have 4 kids (3 of which will be going to school this year). I have a 3,000 square foot house to take care of. Laundry, cooking, yard work, paying bills, my ebay business takes up about 3 hours a day, run errands, buy groceries, get snacks ready for when the kids get home. Get my 2 year old down for a nap, exercise, make sure my husband is on his schedule, (he is retiring from 20 years in the active duty army this year), Iron, decorate my house, shopping (which this is almost always for my kids or my house or groceries). I only watch MAYBE one hour of television a day, if that.
I do not go and get pedicures or manicures, or sit in front of the television all day. If you are a stay at home mom and are bored then there is something wrong. I never get bored and I LOVE being a stay at home mom.
I am up at 5 am and sometimes do not go to bed until almost mid-night. My earlist to go to bed is 10 pm.

stand in the middle of the house and revel in the peace and quiet. For about 5 minutes. The i blast on the radio and start cooking, cleaning, and laundry.
If i had a bottle of wine, i'd be drinking that while cleaning. Then take a long hot/cool bath, read a book. walk around naked.
that's what i used to do. now that i'm working, i have to do all that while the kids are home, without the relaxing, the wine, the bath, walking around naked, the book and the radio.
i miss being a stay at home mom :(

We have a lot to do. We clean the house, i.e. dishes, laundry, sweeping, vacuuming, mopping, we pick up after everyone who lives in the house. We go shopping and pay the bills. We pick up the things the kids need for school and whatever our spouses need. We volunteer at the schools. We bathe the dog, clean up after them and take them out and play with them. And if we are lucky we have a great network of friends that we can get support from and sometimes meet for lunch or a movie or something.
I have seven children that I do all of this for but I also home school one of them and I work at night so I have to squeeze in some sleep in my day too.

Do something that you have been longing to do that you couldn't have done with the kids around. Take a class, go visit an elderly person, volunteer, or just have some quiet time at home. Of course you have to do the same old cleaning, cooking and laundry but that wont take all day. Pamper yourself.

Hey Lisa, I suggest you make a list of stuff that you would like to do and stuff you need to do eventually and stuff you will need to do every day. Every day at breakfast I write down exactly what I want to get done before my hubby gets home - put away the clean dishes, wash the dishes, make the bed, fold the laundry, tidy the livingroom, practice guitar,... I leave fun stuff for the end. And I use up alot of time cooking and experimenting with new recipes. I write down every little thing I need to do because it feels so good being able to cross them off! Then you can feel like you accomplished something during the day. Best wishes and have fun!

I dont have a small house so taking care of all the household stuff takes a few hours almost on a daily basis. This includes bills, food shopping, laundry, cleaning, errands etc.
Other things I do is study (distance learning program), work out, gardening in spring and summer etc. They are only in school for 6 hours so it does go fast. When they get home, homework takes about another hour.

Clean the house first of all, nothing like an empty house to avoid all the distractions. Have a little me time with the soaps on TV. Run errands in town. Visit family and friends. And most of all go shopping with no distraction from kids or husbands. Alot of stuff to do that you cant do with children especially if they are small.

I stayed at home for less than five years of my working life. But feel like it was worth it for my sanity.I had worked full time 18 years, not including a few years before in high school part timeIwhile my friends skiied, went out on dates, etc.Well,I was totally exhausted at home with a baby and 10 yr old, but my sanity was saved.By the time the baby was almost in kindergarten and my son was almost driving,I plunged back in to corporate life.I have been back for 6 years. At home there was my chauffer job which kept me going most all day.A usual day was at least 10 times geting in and out of car.School,pre-school.p/u both kids at different times and take them at different times, soccer, take and p/u,church mid week-grocery,you get the picture.I honestly do not think it can be done if you work when they are at that age,on different schedules. But I found time to clean and cook, make lunches for school,laundry..that was a day in itself.Still.I think you have a lot to do by staying at home, but the corporate world toils my brain so much,so I think staying at home is better. My opinion.Enjoy it,but don't try and be super Mom.,or if you go back to work, remember to breathe, remember your kids, and Good Luck.Moms in general, are truly the cement that keeps this production going!!

Clean house, redecorate, remodel, gardening, landscaping, shopping, napping, relaxing, school ourselves. There is an unlimited amount of things we stay at home mom's find to do to occupy our time when the children are in school. Arts and crafts as well. There is just tons of stuff! I like to have the quiet time for my schooling the most, I can study for tests and write papers so much easier when the kids aren't here and hubby is at work. It's wonderful.
