About 80-90%!

I think there are many reasons.
1. People dont have the time - poor reason!
2. People don't make the time - wrong priorities!
3. People are just lazy!!!!

Sometimes I'm one of those with excuses. I'm sorry to say that!!!

There are thousands of beautiful, expensive family Bibles that are only opened to record a birth or a death in the family. How sad! Many people call themselves "Christians" but if they only open their Bible at church how can they truly be Christians. The Bible instructs those who truly serve God to study the scriptures daily.

Because of modern day wonders, such as the computer and the radio, the Word of God can be read and heard in other ways than just the bible.
I memorize more scripture through the songs played on 89.3 KSBJ here in Houston than what I could ever gain from reading my bible. The tempo of the songs helps the scriptures stick in my head and they are there for me when I need them.
How we get the Word isn't what's important - it only matters that the Word is in us to guide and comfort us.
God bless.
By the way, if you would like to get the Word thru music, 89.3 KSBJ in on the internet. Try it, you'll love it.

When I was Christian and I went to church, yes. In the bulletin for the church service they printed what passages they would be reading, and I would often open the bible to read along. Sometimes translations are different so what they are different may be different from what you read in your bible. (Assuming you brought your own and aren't using the one provided in the pew.)

Some people like to mark the passages to return to them at a later time to contemplate and study them to learn more about God's Word.

New Christians, depending on if they are 'on fire' or not, might not know what to do with the Bible. Most people need a study guide, or to get together with friends to truly find the amazing things God put in the Bible.
I have just read through a chapter and then realized i didn't get anything out of it. It helps to read one or two verses, and chew on them to see what God wants you to know.

Good question. My guess is that probably 80-85% of people who go to a church only open any Bible whule they are there, if at all.

Probably because they don't know the author.

Some people open the Bible at church?

Honestly, I had never thought of that. We use Missals and Hymnals. The Gospel and Readings are reprinted.

I used to sit and read the stuff in the Bible that surrounded the text that the pastor was preaching on--and I'd get pissed if I thought he was taking it out of context or twisting it to his own meanings.

It didn't happen all the time, but it did happen.
