Because when the people danced to the disco, they wore brightly colored clothing and sparkly things, which now adays would be more of a ladies clothing, and now that that style has faded, disco had men who danced in those colthes so now a days they seem girlier, a.k.a. gay.

I don't think it can be changed because seriously, the majority of the gay community loves this kind of music.
