I mean, where are all the Muslims, Hindus, Sikhs, Taoists, Confucians, Buddhists, Wiccans, Pagans, Jews....

Perhaps they could join in for a skirmish or two?

well, the online english speaking world is dominated by christians and all their derivaties... + atheists, that's why

you should check out yahoo answer's other language versions

no endless war like you see here, the religion and spirituality category is serene, civilized and somewhat boring

The Hindus, Sikhs, Taoists, Confucians, Buddhists, Wiccans, Pagans, Jews.... doesn't really need to push their beliefs to anyone... it's between you and your god

and the islams are just not english literate enough, they usually get creamed on Y!A

Just look at the examples on this post for a perfect illustration of my point. Because eachh person feels very strongly about their beliefs and a question is posted in a way that puts people on the defensive about their beliefs.

As a result, instead of coming to a civil discussion and possible resolution, we all get to being defensive about our beliefs.

I could personally care less WHO started it. But each of us can end our anger and continued attacks. That is up to each and everyone one of us.

If the post offends you, take a breath and think before responding and respond in a way that not only explains your beliefs but is respectful. Is it too hard to be respectful? Or is it that you only care about proving your point?

If you only care about proving your point, then who do you really convince.

Walk a mile in their mocassins and treat them with kindness.

Or do you actually prefer contributing more fuel to this rift?

I know right? Tell me about it!

Well the atheists just argue with faith in the unknown and religion in general and the christians think they are special and have coined the market on all things God so... They're all here, just not being called out by name. They are actually preoccupied in this little tango they have going on... like apache dancers tossing each other around and loving every minute of it. They DESERVE each other!

Now look what you probably started! Did you feel left out or something?

One reason is that christian fundamentalists see any thoughts that are not in sync with a literal, fundamentalist reading of the bible as being 'atheistic'. Therefore, other spiritual ideas are presented here but many just lump it together with atheism.

I contribute often and I am a Unitarian Universalist Sufi.
I see others on there, too. But you're right, the more dominant cultural norms (christianity, agnosticism and atheism - and especially confusion) seem to be more prominent.
But i am in there telling my opinion often.

I am a Christian with unshakeable faith in God but I am in no way wanting to "war" with anyone with different views. I am, however, willing to state my beliefs when asked. I would, of course, be glad if a non-believer would have their heart opened to the love of God and all the joy, blessings, and a life with meaning that they would find in fellowship with God.

Other than the muslims, most of those other people don't give a damn. And there simply aren't as many muslims in the US as there are Christians. (and this is predominantly a US website)

I will be waiting. I like to tangle with all religions, and want to see variety. I do not discriminate, but most of the people on this site are christian.
