It depends on what you are hanging on the walls, for the most part. HOT GLUE works really really well, if you have cinderblock type walls. Another idea is adhering yarn, string, hemp, etc. to what you want to hang and then hanging it from a small 3M hook. Of course, tape works really well too. Get the heavy duty double sided stuff, so that it will stick the longest. I would not recommend using the sticky tack stuff... it is REALLY hard to get off of walls when you are trying to move out!

Dorm Walls

Well, when I was in college, I lived in a dorm that had cement walls, so we used double-sided tape. The double-sided tape you can get from auto parts stores seems to be stronger, but 3M makes a pretty good double-sided tape too.

You could also use that sticky-gum stuff. You should be able to get that at any craft store.

My senior year, I was in a dorm that had regular walls. I just drove nails into the wall and at the end of the year, I filled the holes with spackle (just a dab on your finger to fill the hole and wipe it off with a damp rag to smooth it). The nail holes are small, so they probably wouldn't even notice the little dot of spackle. If your room isn't white, then you can touch it up with a colored pencil once it's dry.

Some students used to make the holes and then just filled them with toothpaste at the end of the year to hide them.

Dorm Tape

I absolutely adore those 3M tabs - they have hooks & things you can attach to them as well.

Since I used them I've gotten entire deposit back on 2 dorm rooms & a rental house - before that I would always have a bit knocked off for repainting.

My sister used sticky velcro they make to stick things to the carpeted walls in her dorm room - she just took the hook side to use.

The 3M sticky tape works pretty well. It also depends on what kind of walls you have. If you have that nasty brick stuff with a painted surface, use duct tape. First put a piece of duct tape face down on your poster (just put a piece of tape on the back of the poster or paper). Then use another piece of duct tape to tape it to the wall, but make sure you stick it to the tape already on the poster.

If you have drywall type walls, use the 3M stuff. You'll have to reapply maybe 2x per semester, though.

Sticky pad deals, My roommate and I stuck all kinds of stuff on our cinderblock walls with that yellow sticky stuff. You should be able to get it at Wal-Mart or Target or somewhere like that.

Get the sticky stuff at office depot. Did you not ever take it off of the posters in high school? I thought everyone did that. Guess not.
