I don't think that a Christian is, by definition, someone who is narrow-minded and judgmental. There are many Christians in the world who are not: Mother Teresa comes to mind.
Unfortunately, there are some Christians who try to force their beliefs on others. For example, some Christians believe that gay and lesbian people should not be allowed to marry. However, this infringes on the rights of gays and lesbians to "Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness," which is granted to all Americans. And, since it does not negatively impact the rights of those Christians, there's no reason for them to control that. (I would not be against a Christian who believed that others should not murder, as murder DOES infringe on the rights of others.)
These so-called Christians are the ones who give all Christians a bad name. I would say that the majority of Christians that I know are NOT narrowminded or judgmental (and I'm an atheist). However, there are a few who are, and unfortunately that gives a stereotype to all other Christians.

Christians want to give the clearest testimony they can to the truth out of love for others souls. We know that there is only one way to eternal life, so we are perceived as being narrow minded.
John 14:6Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

It is a double standard. Politically, the radical right is full of psycho christians who can't see past their own opinions (this does not include the christian majority though).
People generalize that like they generalize every muslim to be a suicide bomber. It is a sign of the enlightenment wearing off and us slipping back into the middle ages.

Each side is guilty and they need to realize that, instead of accusing the other of being judgemental. Too bad people are unable to see it!

Because most Christians are so narrow minded as to think that God would be as judgmental as humans are.
God is perfect love.
There is no need for God to judge. And because they think that God would ever condemn someone, anyone to hell is narrow minded in the grandest sense.
