I Want One!!!!!!!!! But I refuse to pay $1,500 for one because it's too much money of course, but also because I don't want a showdog, I want a family member to add on to my family.

I am a supporter of the Kennel Club of America. I detest people who support black market traders....for becca who was so honest in giving her remarks, please read between the lines. Don't jump to conclusions, it might get you pregnant.

I know $1,500 is alot for a scottie terrier if it's mother and or father are show dogs. The price came from the director of screening at the KCA website.

Do your homework.

To correct a mistake on my behalf, I spoke to a representative and screened by her from the American Kennel Club, the AKC and not the 'whatever I typed'
MY BAD!! I apologize.

I know that these dogs are very aggressive. They are solitary, trained by generations to be a natural prowler, hunter and killer. I know all this. But I would still have one. I have registered at the Scottish Terrier Rescue of
Southern California and would take and adopt a sheltered animal. Now if I have to pay for top genes, then I will. I'll adopt an older dog, one who's hurt or needs an operation, or is physically challenged.

I've never heard of the Kennel Club of America, and I've been training and showing dogs since 1976. The American Kennel Club www.akc.org is the oldest and best known American registry and dog show organization for dog breeds.

Scotties are very tough dogs that need a lot of grooming and early training. Many Scotties live to be 12-15 years old. If you paid $1500, that's only about $100 a year. Is it really so much to get a really good dog? Even if you don't pay top dollar, you'd better be sure you get one with a really good temperament. They can be very aggressive if they're provoked!

Find a good breeder referral by going to www.akc.org or talking to people at dog shows. You should get the best one you can afford!
http://www.akc.org/breeds/scottish_terrier/index.cfm
http://www.akc.org/breederinfo/breeder_search.cfm

You can also find info about the breed clubs on the akc site - they probably have a rescue group where you can get an older dog for less money.
http://www.akc.org/breeds/rescue.cfm

The best breeders will be members of their breed club, promoting healthy dogs with great temperaments. They spend a lot of money on health care and genetic testing for their breeding dogs - that's WHY their puppies are expensive. They should ask you a bunch of questions to make sure their puppy will be getting a good home. If all a "breeder" seems to care about is whether your check will clear, you can be sure he won't care a week later when the pup is dying from distemper or parvo and you want your money back.

Whatever you do, DON'T go to a pet shop, a flea market or buy one sight-unseen off the Internet!!!! You'll pay top dollar for what is usually a poor quality puppy mill dog that is often sick and may have falsified registration papers. And you'll be supporting one of the cruelest industries in the country.

According to this website http://kca.tikki-fish.net/
the "Kennel Club of America" is closed.

Why don't you rescue one? Do you know Scotties? They are very difficult. They are a lot of dog in a small package, all teeth and fur and muscle, independent, aggressive with other dogs often, hard to train...and very very funny, crazy, and loveable...but they might growl at you if you try to hug 'em and they aren't in the mood. Mine lived 13 years, killed a fox and a raccoon and almost killed a cat. I love' em , too but...on guard!!!
