Good thing you put "if" as the first word since the actual definition of praise in the dictionary is:
1 : to express a favorable judgment of : COMMEND
2 : to glorify (a god or saint) especially by the attribution of perfections

If that indeed was the definition of "praise," then God wouldn't need it. However, since it's not the definition of "praise," you question is invalid.
Praise is not empty flattery, it is the honest proclamation of worthiness.

Because He is the Creator of the Heavens and the Earth.
Because He is the Creator of man.
Because He loves us with an AGAPE love.
Because He provides for us and cares for us - Jehovah Jirah!!
Because He removes my sin and saves me from eternal damnation.
Because He lives!
Because He is the true and only Almighty God, the Alpha & Omega, the Comforter, Encourager, Friend, Jehovah, Holy Father, Lover of my soul....
He deserves AT LEAST that much. We cannot praise HIM enough...praise GOD!

It's not flattery. It's my expression of thanks.
Praise
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
In religion, praise is an empassioned exaltation of God (ie. a Supreme Being, or Creation), typically as an expression of gratitude for one's life or being.

Because the definition is also 'to draw attention to'. God wants everyone to know that they don't have to go to Hell. The more praise He gets, the more people will be made aware. It really IS all about Love.

GOD doesn't need praise.. he deserves it. There's a big difference. Praise is done in honor of our Lord and Savior, there is no bible verse or scripture that says "thou must praise me". Praise is something done to acknowledge good doings - like a child who receives straight "A's" on his/her report card receives praises from the teacher, or praises from their family and friends. GOD has all power and if he wanted us to walk around flattering him or "praising" him he could have just made us into yombies... instead Christ gives of the choice. The opportunity to accept him freely and receive the blessings that only he can provide. I praise him always, for he has done marvelous things in my life. God Bless! :-)

If that were the definition... but it's only one of the definitions and not the one applied to praising God.

The definition of "praise" is "Expression of approval, commendation, or admiration." It is an act that people do, the definition does not include any inflating or stroking of egos.
And to answer your question: He doesn't need it, but He deserves it.

It isn't that God needs it, it is that He's worthy of it. When you praise your favorite food, is it because it needs your praise? No, its because it is worthy of it. It just so happens that God is the most worthy object in the universe of praise. God is the only being where the presentation of Himself to others is the greatest act of love, because He is the most desirable object. So, in being the most loving, He went to great lengths to ensure that He was accessable to you.

God does not need Praise. He gave us free will to decide if we would submit to him and worship and praise him for all he has done for us (including creating us in the first place).
When praise and worship are given willingly, he is "well pleased"
