A person can be ignorant (not knowing some fact or idea) without being stupid (incapable of learning because of a basic mental deficiency). And those who say, “That’s an ignorant idea” when they mean “stupid idea” are expressing their own ignorance.

An ignorant person has the capacity to learn, but chooses not to. A stupid person simply lacks the means.

Ignorance is simply a lack of knowledge. We are all ignorant about something. Stupidity is the inability to assimilate knowledge.

ignorant is a term usually applied to someone who just Doesn't Know. that person may not have been exposed to something, has never heard of it, hasn't studied or experienced it, so therefore has No Idea what it is, how to think about it, because they have no clue as to what that thing is or means. for example, if i never wore shoes before, i would never know u have to tie them. i understand that rocks cut my feet, but i've never seen shoes before so i wouldn't know. it doesn't mean i don't have the ability to learn, but i just don't have the opportunity OR i don't choose to seek out what they are.

stupid is usually applied to someone who is exposed to something, but does not have the ability to understand it. or they don't catch on quickly, and continue to make mistakes even after learning something. so if i know about shoes, and am taught to tie them, but keep walking around without them and cutting my feet, keep COMPLAINING about getting cut, but not understanding that if i just wore them, they would not be cut..that's pretty stupid.
