Taivo, by far, has the best answer. Anyone who says they only speak Italian in Italy is the real dope (all you namecallers...)

Italy wasn't even unified as a country until 1861! Go to Val d'Aosta and you're likely to hear French, German in Bolzano/Bozen, Slovene in Gorizia, Albanian in Bari, and the whole host of other dialects and languages like Friuliano, Siciliano, Napolitano, Genovese and so on...

There are actually several languages spoken in Italy. The national language is Standard Italian, but there are several other languages that are spoken regionally--Neapolitan (southern Italy), Sicilian (Sicily), Sardinian (which may be more than one language on Sardinia), Franco-Provençal (in the northwest), Lombard (in the northwest), Ligurian (in the north), Venetian (in the northeast), Mocheño (a Germanic language in Tyrol), Friulian (in the northeast), Ladin (in the northeast). These are the main ones.

Grazie!
