I was referred to as "chunky" by a hospital doctor today. I admit I am rather short at 5'2 3/4", but, I am a size six with a 22" waist and 32" hips and I thought that was okay. I left there felling like a bloody hippo feeling like I should be dieting asap. So how sodding thin are you supposed to get before doctors are happy?

you should report this doctor to the hospital registrar. that's very rude and he must have been joking. I've battled with eating disorder all my life and if that had been said to me I could have been in a serious crisis. it was probably sarcastic as you are very slim and even thin for your height. I'm 5'7'' and a size 10 bottom half and 14 top as i have a very large bust, but I still feel fat and it hurts when people make jokes. report the stupid fool..he should be struck off.

A good ay is to measure your BMI (Body Mass Index). There are plenty of web sites for this like tlc.com/honey

A healthy BMI for a woman would be 6-24% and a man 6-18%.
For a 5 foot 2 person should weight between 90 to 130lbs. (Yes im 100% sure.) Dont listen to those comments that say 105-110 lbs they dont know what BMI is. But i wouldnt worry to much cuz your waist is only 22 inches and you are at low risk of anything dangerous.

Personally I would say don't worry about it too much. I looked at a few weight charts a while back and found some weird stuff in them. One thing is that most height to weigh ratios do not seem to take consideration for bone mass, which from what I learned in my health classes actually does matter. Also they don't calculate muscle mass. If you exercise regularly and eat every thing in moderation you should be fine.

I don't know if anyone else has noticed but it seems like health science is a very unstable one. For example fish used to be good for kids now it's bad. Eggs were good then they were bad and now their good again. Chocolate is okay, it's bad, it okay, it's bad???

Just eat everything in moderation and exercise I may not be a health professional, but I'm pretty sure if you stick to that you'll be fine.

I can't believe your doctor called you that; very irresponsible and unprofessional. Some doctors are old fashioned and go with just the weight vs height thing, not taking into account big vs small bones, or muscle mass.

There is a large range for what's healthy, and if your doctor truly felt you had a health issue, that's how he should have phrased it.

Here's my opinion: go by how you feel. If you feel healthy, and your level of energy is high enough to do everything you want to do, then you're at the right weight for YOU. If you feel overtired, or your clothes aren't fitting comfortably, or you're feeling unhealthy and you feel it has to do with weight, then up the work-outs and try to eat a healthier diet.

The most important thing is to remember you're beautiful at any weight. Even if it turns out to be overweight, you're still beautiful at your current weight as well your goal weight. :)

You sound tiny so maybe this doctor is just off his rocker, a fan of anorexics (I hear Nicole Richey is looking for a new bf) or just an asshole.

You are certainly small enough for ANY health measure scale.

Are you sure that's what he said? Maybe you misunderstood.

I'd report the bastard; saying that kind of thing can plunge a young woman into anorexia or bulimia. I've seen such an oft-handed comment do this.

Don't take the word of one jerk to heart. YOU know if you're healthy or not, but your size seems just bloody fine; in fact, down right excellent!

I think your doctor has lost his marbles. His personal preference in women is probably stick insects. Your height/weight ratio is fine.

It is possible that you don't have a lot of muscle mass. Even thin people can be "overfat" and badly out of shape, but that's a whole other story. I'm quite certain that that wasn't what he meant when he said "chunky." He's just a rude, inconsiderate git. See a different doctor next time. If this one keeps this up with his patients, he'll have no business. ... and don't give it a second thought.

Many like women to be thin like Princess Diana plus it is healthy to be thin. She was 5'11" and 125 pounds. Chunky does not mean fat. Also a little weight lifting makes people thin and fit. But it is entirely up to you. It is mostly NOT your fault, if you need to lose weight. The way we have been taught to eat is responsible for making obesity the number one health problem in the world (according to Atlantic Monthly magazine) replacing hunger and infectious disease. You need to re-learn how to eat so you can become thin. Not a diet, but diet lifestyle.

Find out about fastest way to lose weight, gradual ways to lose weight, most effective exercise and anti-water. Lose bodyfat and retained water which also makes you a lot fatter (bloated). Most important-- make sure to read the last "fat loss tip", first before anything else, to see the number one food that causes Americans to be fat.

Well you didn't mention your weight. Those seem like good measurements but how big is your stomach? What is the over all picture here? At any rate, if the doctor just said you are chunky, I think that is okay. However, if the doctor had referred to you as obese, then you'd have cause to worry.
