You are not alone. My parents were like that. You should go to college and if they dont support you still go. I pay for college myself and im not going to lie to you and tell you its going to be easy. You can get student loans and even if you dont have a cosigner you can get student loans through the government. Make sure you filled out your fafsa so you can recieve financial aid. I would have regreted now going to college if i would have just worked right out of high school. So go to college and prove your parents wrong. Be successful and go to college.

You know what? I used to have the same story when I was younger, but I realized that if there's nothing they could do for me, might as well start doing something for myself. I worked while I studies and that kept me in school for 3 years, eventually my folks realized that I am really into pursuing my studies that during my final year in college, they started giving back their support.

I thought it took my parents a long time to finally realize that I'm really serious about my dreams of finishing school... but Im still glad thay did. Its never too late.

There's hope. Stop wallowing there and start doing something. Good luck and God bless!

arrange for a visit at the college or university you are interested in. you won't be able to get pell grants without your parents tax records (of which i suspect they wouldn't give you). take out student loans but PLEASE be responsible when borrowing the money. only borrow what you really need. there won't be any payments until you are graduated. you can go to school part time and work part time for a while... prove to your parents that you are serious about your education. they can't ignore how important this is to you if you have done it on your own while working also.

it's possible that they are trying to discourage college because they are ashamed that they don't have the ability to help you with tuition and books... not many parents save for that. don't be to hard on your parents... we all try to do what we think is best for our children AND we always want them to do better than we did for ourselves... PROVE how important your education is to them!

BEST OF LUCK TO YOU!

Im sure there is a reason for them to be like this. Maybe you confuse their being over-protective with non-support? Or maybe they are being too careful with how you handle your life. But the point of the matter is, if you think you are matured enough to handle responsibility for your actions, then do what you feel is best for you. But also try to consider their suggestions and let them know that you value them for their inputs but it is still your ball game and you take responsibility for it.

Whatever happens, you only have yourself to look up to..Good luck!

I think you should do what you think is best for you. They would do what's best for them because it's there lives, now you need to live your life and do what is best for you. Sometimes parents aren't as supporting as we want them, but if we succeed they will be proud (even if they are not on our way to success).

Have you explained to them exactly how you feel about proving yourself and all? Ask (nicely) if they would have appreciated their own parents trying to run their lives. Explain that there are many paths that lead to a successful life and maybe you just wish to choose a different way than they did.
