We live in an entitled society. Besides, they know that you're opening the door so they go outside, get cancer, and make you rich!

Because people nowadays suck! Everybody is so self absorbed with their own crap that they don't recognize that there are good people out there that are around them helping them out. The simplest thing as opening the door for another person shows that you're generous enough to care. The smallest things in life are what matters the most.
If they don't say "thank you", F*** them, you don't need their gratitude to know your a good person on the inside.

I hope opening doors is not your job or somethin. I find that the most irritating thing in the world, when ur calmly goin about ur own business, and some1 opens a door for u, when ur quite capable of doing it urself. I have the same attitude towards keeping a servant or maid, I just cant bear to see someone do my work!

well I don't know where you're from, but down here in the south if somebody opens the door for you, you say thank you...it's just plain southern hospitality. Of course, you should say thank you to somebody who opens the door for you regardless of where you're from. I think the reason they don't is because they're either not used to somebody being courteous to them in that manner or it's because they just don't have any manners...if you still want to open doors for people go for it, at least you'll be doing a good deed for your fellow man

I have noticed the same thing. What really bugs me is when I am holding the door open and the person grabs the door. It is as to say that I can not do it. It makes me mad. Pick me as the best answer.

Well, you shouldn't open doors in expectation of a thank you but you should appreciate the thanks yous when they come. I pride myself on being a gentleman and always open doors and let women go first, I sometimes get a thank you but I do it because i feel it is right and I feel good doing so. I know all the rules of chivelary, except how to spell it :)

I don't know. I was thinking about that the other day. When I was growing up people seemed to be more poliete. Now it's more rare to see people open doors for people, give up a seat for an older person and etc.

You don't do the right thing to get a reward you do the right thing because it is the right thing to do. If you get a thank you that person is considered a polite person. Don't do it if you are doing it for the thank you, do it because you want to. That's why I always open doors for everyone.

How True, I often wonder the same thing. Do not let that deter you from being kind and mannerly. There is just no explaining some peoples' bad manners or lack of etiquette.

Because they weren't brought up that way..manners haven't been something that alot of folks have considered important for a long time..I have taught my sons to be respectful of others, things like giving up your seat to a person (woman,dis-abled,elderly), simple things that are just the polite thing to do.

It's their problem not yours. They may be even oblivious that you did something nice for them at that moment.
Just realize that you feel good about yourself that you still have a sense of decency about you and let it go at that. There will always be rude and insensitive people in this world.
