It was for a credit card payment to Target. Do I need to go there or will that contact me or will they just try to re-deposit it? I have the money to cover it in my account now.

My bank already charged me a $35 fee, but I have heard nothing from Target. Will they contact me?

Will they just charge it to my credit card?

Some creditors (target) will try to withdraw the money again in one or two weeks. Or if the creditor has the option, you can go to the customer service desk inside the store and pay the amount. Some companies dont withdraw the money again once the check returned and instead charge you a penalty of $25 (around) plus the product amount. They will send you a letter in the mail asking you to send payment. Be careful with this because they will eventually report you to SCAN/TELECHEK and prevent you from using checks elsewhere until the debt is paid. Target i think is one store that will try again to clear the check without any penalty. I bounced a check once or twice with them before.

First off try and get a hold of the department in Target that has your check and explain that you made a mistake. Take care of the payment and that will stop any progression from the store. You may have to pay a fine to the store (returned check fee) which can be about 10 to 25 dollars. Pay it and get a receipt of payment and the check back so you have proof it was handled. Next your bank will charge you a return fee roughly the same amount so make sure you have that covered so it wont cause more checks to bounce. Take it from me it can go downhill really fast so dont waste time.

There's a good chance that no one at the store will be able to assist you, and you may not get very good advice. It's unlikely that the store will contact you with anything other than a penalty plus interest on your next statement. It's also possible that they may refer your account to collections if you have a history of non-payment.

Call their credit department. They are the folks that can advise you best. If you're lucky they may even waive the penalty for quickly acting responsibly. BTW, your bank will probably hit you with penalty fees, and there's a good chance that target has already tried to process your check more than once.

Usually the company you wrote the check to will try to redeposit the check again. I would call that company just to make sure though. Also, you should try to apply for a credit line so that if this happens again, they will not return the check, but pay it. And then you can pay it back when you have the money, along with a very small interest fee. No large NSF fees per item incurred!

Most likely, they will resubmit the check and it will get paid. They will also submit an additional bounced check fee (usually $20.) Finally, depending on your bank account you could possible be charged another fee by the bank.

It might be wise to see if your bank offers overdraft protection. For a small fee they will allow checks to clear even if you have insufficient funds. You can also tie your checking account to a savings account or credit card from the same bank so that fund will be removed from there in the event of overdrafts.

Make sure that you have enough in account to cover all the bank charges, because there will be some doozies. It's prolly been run through twice now with up to $35 charge each time and Target might have a charge also!

Call the customer service number on your credit card and they should be able to help you to know if they will re-deposit the check or not.

Call the place you wrote the check to and find out if they automatically redeposit. Some do, Some don't. If they don't, let them know the check bounced and you want to make good on it. It looks so much better to do that voluntarily than if they have to call you.

Get a money order and make it out to the store and take it there.
That way the money order will act as cash and provide proof that it was paid.
Hope this helps!
Have a great day!

Usually you can try to put it back through if you now have the money in there. You could ask your bank to be sure.
