Bring water to rolling boil, then add corn. Boil corn on the cob for 15-20 minutes with a pinch of sugar in the water (no more than a teaspoon or so). Leave the corn in the water until everything is ready to serve, it will keep it warm for a short time.

Both 8-10 and 20 minutes are FAR too long to cook fresh sweet corn. I don't like to boil it anyway.
One way I like is to strip the husks, put the corn in a shallow glass pan with a little water, cover and microwave for about 2 minutes.
Another is to pull the husks back, remove the silk, and then tie the husks with string. Grill on a hot barbecue, basting with garlic butter, until nicely cooked, about 1 minute per side.
Be sure to get fresh corn, prefereably picked the same day you're going to eat it. As soon as it's picked, the sugars in the kernels start to convert into starch and the corn loses its delightful sweetness. I like to visit farmer's markets to get the best local corn.
If you can't get fresh corn, you might as well eat frozen corn, since they freeze it almost immediately after picking. It can actually be BETTER tasting than corn that has sat in a supermarket for a couple of weeks.

Once the salted water boils remove from heat, let the corn sit it will be done in a few minutes. Try putting some milk or cream and some butter in the boiling water, it brings the flavor of the corn out.

Once your water is boiling, it should take about 9 minutes after you place the corn into the already boiling water. I actually microwave my corn on the cob by placing in a flat dish with a few T. of water and a little sugar. I microwave about 1-1/12 min. per ear and turn/rotate the corn about halfway through the cooking time.

If you're talking about fresh corn, about 3 - 4 minutes.
Bring a large pot of water to the boil and add a tablespoon of sugar. Add your shucked corn, return to the boil, cover with a lid and cook no longer than 3 or 4 minutes, or the kernels will get tough.

Corn is ready to eat the moment it is plucked from the stalk. You are not cooking when you boil it but merely heating it up. If you enjoy it a bit on the firm side leave it in the pot for 10 minutes at a rapid boil. It you like it with a softer texture than just leave it in longer according to your taste. Take care and I hope you have an amazing day!

It usually tells you on the package, but I usually start mine when I begin cooking the meal and just make sure there is plenty of water in the pot. Cause you can always turn it off and leave it sit in the hot water w/ a lid if it gets done before everything else. The main thing is to make it hot. But if you really want an actual timeframe then I would say boil it for 20 minutes. Then let it sit in the hot water for another 10 w/ the heat off.

Place in boiling water for 5 minutes then remove from the heat and leave in the pot covered for 5 more minutes. Makes great tasting corn that still has all the vitamins.
