First time, get out of the shower and put a smoothing cream on. Then wrap hair back up in towel to towel dry. Then add mousse and scrunch with hands. Let dry more, then spray a leave in conditioner in it. I always add mousse again after that, but you dont have to. The key is the multiple steps of dryness. You want to lock moisture in when it is soaked, then create curl while it is drying. Remember the less cury your hair is, the more you have to work at it!

Using gel will work but if you have long hair tie it up wet in a bun or braid and let it dry then use gel or other styling products to 'scrunch' hair for the look you are going for

If you want it to look "beachy", use a product with salt water in it. This should make it wavy, otherwise, just seek a product that is for prepping hair to be curly. There are so many out there, and if money isn't an issue, ask your hair stylist what would work best with your hair type...

when you get out of the shower, spray on some leave in conditioner and comb with a wide tooth plastic comb, then pull some curl activator or gel thorugh it and flip your head upside down. I use a towel to scrunch the moisture out of my hair as curls stick to my hands and it pulls the curls out. You can also use a diffuser when you blowdry, but I scrunch it with the towel first.
This is all assuming you have some natural wave or curl to begin with...otherwise you're out of luck.

use a hair product (gel, mousse, etc.) specifically for curly hair. use a blow dryer on the lowest heat setting with a diffuser while scrunching your hair.

when you rinse conditioner out of your hair, do it with your head/hair flipped down, then when you get out of the shower, squeeze out the excess water, put a dime size amount of frizz-ease serum in, scrunch hair with a towel, then apply a golf-ball size of mousse (i like the new herbal esscences one) and scrunch hair again with a towel....blow dry using a diffuser with head flipped over for like 5 minutes, then allow hair to air dry the rest of the way...

Take some gel, scrunch your hair while you blowdry. Or try using a diffuser (sp?) instead of a blowdryer

while your hair is damp, put some gel or mousse in it, flip your head over, and wrap a towel around your head twisting your hair in it. When it dries it will be wavy.
