I email my dad and he doesn't respond. I'm not sure if he cares. He used to make a passing effort to send me a card on holidays with a note in side, he sent me an email with pictures of his home, but I realize now that he never really spoke about much. He would talk about the weather or someother nonspecific thing. Just like you would do with a friendly stranger at the bus stop. I want to know what I should do, should I keep trying?? Is there something else going on that I don't understand or even recognize???? What do you think??

There could be alot of reasons, but I'd have to say that your dad feels guilty for not being there and instead of trying to live with the guilt he puts you to the side more than he'd like to but he loves you more than anything.

I'm sure he cares, he just might not realize how important it is for you to get a response. You might call him on occasion to chit-chat, if you've got anything at all in common. Ask him his opinion on stuff to draw him out. Don't let the link just fade away, though, it's hard to put it back together once broken. I don't know your situation and he could have some other reason for not responding, but only you could guess at that. If there is some issue, ask him straight up, if you really think some problem exists. He could actually be sick and not telling anyone, so avoids contact.

It seems he's to busy living his own life with his own family if he has one to invest much time with you. When your miles apart and do not remain in touch any relative becomes like a stranger and it seems one has to carry the load of communication and the other giving such short answers it does make you feel overwhelm left out and forgotten.Maybe you should tell your dad how you feel and let him decide what to do. Your doing all you can

Without knowing your and his background it's hard to say.
He must have a reason for how he is acting, as much as you have a reason for wanting to contact him.
I am a stepdad and realize that I don't always know what to say to my two stepdaughters. Right or wrong, I sometimes just don't talk much.
What is his background ?
Are there issue's that he would rather just leave alone ?

I'd suggest you keep trying. Presently, your dad may be experiencing some personal problems that needs his attention. It is always good to keep the lines of communication open.

yes keep trying he is a man after all so he forgets stuff or doesn't think about it or maybe now that your old(i assume) he just doesn't know what to talk to you about find a common interest and talk to him about it or tell him it hurts you that he treats you like a stranger now

I think you need to have a serious talk with your mom about this situtation...Maybe she will have some exclaimations for you...If this is your real dad doing you this way ,he has serious problems!

keep trying, tell him you want to be a bigger part of his life, and you don't like being treated like he doesn't care...be honest and do not beat around the bush

MY DAD HASN'T TRIED TO TALK TO ME IN ALMOST 4 MONTHS.

I UNDERSTAND WHERE YOU ARE COMING FROM.

IT SUCKS, CHILDREN SHOULDN'T HAVE TO TRY TO MAKE THEIR PARENTS BE THEIR FRIEND.
