Fairmont IS beautiful, isn't it! You're going to have a great time there. As far as restaurants, there are eateries at the Hot Springs, but you'll probably want to go down the road to Invermere, where there are several neat little restaurants. There is lots of good hiking around Fairmont, so make sure you bring good walking shoes, a small backpack (because you'll want to have a camera with you) and take lots of water. It gets hot in the summer, and the humidity is very low, so you need to keep hydrated.
While you're in the neighborhood, visit Fort Steele -- it's a re-creation of one of the old trading forts, and great fun to visit. Stop in at Kimberley, which has decked itself out as a Bavarian town, complete with decorated fire hydrants and a central Platzl, or village square. There is a chair lift in Kimberley that you can ride and I believe you can even take a mountain bike up on the chair for a thrilling ride down!
If you're into hiking, Mount Fisher isn't far, and it's an easy one-day hike. Just below the bottom of the peak, before you get into the scree, there is a cirque that looks like a fairyland -- huge bolders, draped in inches-thick moss, a little pond, just gorgeous. Talk about romance! In July, it stays late until about 10 pm, and the sunrise is around 4:30 a.m, so you'll have lots of time to hike up, enjoy a picnic at the cirque, and decide from there whether you want to climb to the peak before returning to the base.
There are dozens of little places to explore in the Fairmont region -- your hosts at the hot springs will help you find them -- but you're going to have an unforgettable vacation. And for romance, there are even fireflies at the right time of year!
