It's possible. I don't think it's been done yet though.
Here's some current applications of genetically modified trees:

possible - it means only forcing it to grow faster, NOTHING MORE.

because intake of C02 and release of O2 is just a byproduct of photosynthesis that creates biomass - the tree is GROWING THIS WAY.

but why would one want to do so in this pretty costly way? you can instead choose from any faster growing species. or plant some bushes or grasses that have higher productivity - it depends on the condition like soil, climate, what plant will thrive the best. Do you realize that what you mean is just faster metabolism, faster growth, higher productivity, nothing more. there are plenty of trees that grow pretty fast - poplar for instance. they give soft wood that can be and is used as source of energy

ALSO, breeding for faster production (classic ways as well as GM) has been the aim of people eversince they started with agriculture. Sometimes it takes only to crosbreed two varieties and the hybrid will be faster growing, that is how it goes.

I'm sure it's possible. But companies don't just do things for free. When they work on corn, banana or other consumer produce they make money. Someone had to buy those trees and there have to be a market for it for any companies to invest millions and billions to producing trees like that.

If you screw around with genetics, it will turn into something really crazy. It may not look like a tree, but it's possible.
