i don't think it's true....but i swallowed gum a few weeks ago & i had terrible diarrhea on the airplane the next day, swallowing that gum gave me diarrhea for like 3 days!!! it's because of some sort of sweetener they put in it...(it was a piece of orbit gum!) so nobody swallow orbit gum or you will get diarrhea

I'd heard the same lame myth. The fact of the matter is, you will pass it completely through your intestinal tract before it ever has a chance to be "dissolved" by stomach acid (which is were the dissolving occurs). Your intestines can't absorb any nutrients from it, so it just passes along till you get rid of it naturally.
