For a man, either a suit, (black tie + shirt) and for a woman.... dress, shoes, suit trousers, fancy top. If your a scots man...wear a kilt - it's always a hit with everyone!. Ask other guests what they will be wearing if you still need help!. Have fun. x

If you are scottish, kilts (highland dress)seems to be the norm. If you do not like the kilt or are non scottish a suit is perfectly acceptable. As an Englishman living in Scotland I have been to many formal functions and have never been made to feel out of place by not wearing tartan.

Formal wear (more often in the United States) or formal dress (in the United Kingdom) is a general fashion term used to describe clothing suitable for formal events, including weddings, debutante cotillions, balls, etc. Western formal wear has had a pervasive influence on styles in many countries. It is almost always the standard used in countries where there is no formal version of the national costume. Foreign dignitaries and honoured guests in Western countries often adopt Western evening dress on formal and state occasions, although it is not uncommon for distinguished persons to wear the formal versions of their national dress if such exists; the sari and the dashiki are easily-recognizable examples.

You wear the appropriate clan kilt and regalia. Ladies wear long dresses with a sash in the clan's tartan. Otherwise top hat and tails.

The same thing it would for any other wedding, unless you happen to belong to a Scottish clan. If you do happen to belong to a clan, consult someone from the organization.
