Hi there...I work at a facility for teen boys and I have no problem with them, it's other staff that get on my nerves to the point where...as much as I love my job...I want to quit. I work on several units and I wish I was assigned to only one. Reason being is because each unit has developed their own set of rules, in which all rules for the entire facility should be the same. I am tired of being on one unit one day and another the next and having to re-learn or re-adjust to whoever makes up the rules. The unit directors are horrible...you can tell them there are problems until your *** falls off...and they do nothing. So what am I suppose to do...how can I Iet administration know how I am feeling without sounding like a nag?

Ok...I have several answers, but it is my problem, that is why I am mad...even though I do not hold a supervisory position where I work, I get in trouble...so do others that are floaters because we are one way in one unit and another way in a nother unit...for example...yesterday I worked the c-unit and I was getting yelled at for not documenting in log book enough...so today I worked the d-unit and I was getting yelled at for documenting too much...unit to unit rules are all the same and I am tired of staff changing the dam rules!

Explain to them that you can appreciate the fact that they trust and value you enough to give you the responsibility to be able to handle so many different floors. However, you believe that your efforts would be more worthwhile if you could dedicate your time to just one floor.and you would be more effective with those boys. Make sure they realize how much you really do enjoy your job. Good luck!

Well I know how u feel in a way. I think you should just tell administration how much u like ur job and tell them what is the thing that u hate about it and give them the reasonn why. And if that does not work just quit. I mean why are u going to work in a place where they don`t care about the staff and they make so many freaking rules???

The situation your in needs to be viewed from the other side. Ask yourself why the rules are different? why are there multiple units? I'm sure you will find that the teens are placed according to the problems they present and the approach needed to address these problems will differ from group to group. Adaptability is the sign of a well balanced and creative mind. Become more flexible and accept the premise that those in charge may have very good reasons for doing what they do. Find out those reasons and I think you may find out how selfish your desire to have the situation fit your needs is. You will be more likely to become a team player for the benefit of those whom you are supposed to be helping and your job satisfaction will grow proportionately. Remember, in the job your in, the ultimate goal is to help those you serve.

If you feel you are getting stressed and tired because of some rules imposed by "people from the different units", what you might do is ask some other staff who might be feeling like you do.. band together and file a written report to the admin.. it might work for the better..

They most likely already caught the vibe and are aware if your negative attitude. Understand it is a part the maturation process to learn not judge your peers and supervisors so harshly .... offer them the same compassion and empathy that you do those young clients.
Remember humility is operating from an equal playing field and not putting or allowing anyone above or below you.
Just what is your intention for putting and judging your bosses and peers on a higher level of accountability than these kids?

Can you put in for a regular staff assignment? Or report to the DON instead of the unit supervisors?

If you aren't the boss - or the director - or someone in charge of the place - it isn't your problem. Put your concerns in writing to whoever is in charge - and "let it go". Just do your job to your best ability. It isn't your battle to fight.

well be glad that you have a job...there are many people with out work who are trying to find work.
try working it out, talk to your supervisor about your complaints, but be respectful to them, ask don't demand, and try to not get in to trouble. Keep your job, you may regret it, unless you have another job to go to. LOL
