Not dumb, no. But they often seem to be more hard-headed and wilder than yellow Labs and black Labs.

Dogs have different levels of intelligence, just like humans. Through my readings, I have learned that it takes a lot of breeding to get a Chocolate lab, and over-breeding can affect intelligence. The Chocolate I owned was very hyper and a very bad mother to the one litter puppies. But she was given to me already grown, so I wasn't able to train her and work with her as a puppy. That has a big bearing on dogs.

I wouldn't say they are dumb. Just can be stubborn (most dogs can be). The only choc lab experience I have was my neighbor's dog. He was extremely well trained and obedient when he wanted to be. Went duck and squirrel hunting all the time. At times he was just a renegade, jumping a 6ft fence and chasing people down the street. Jumping out of the pirogue and scaring the ducks away. Very free-spirited.

No its not scientifically true. Dogs can't be any smarter than the person trying to train them. With a knowledgeable owner, labs are pretty equal. It's much more likely that the greatest differences are between field and show lines.

I'd say no. have a chocolate lab that wants to chase softball every night. Very friendly. Best friend.

Probably not the smartest of dog breeds but certainly not the dumbest.

Chocolate labs aren't necessarily dumb, but black labs were the original lab, and the other color crosses came from doing some weird breeding with the black labs, so black labs are thought to be the smartest of the labs, with the other labs following somewhere behind.

Actually, Chocolate labs may be dumb but, they can't be as dumb as dalmations because they're the most stupiest dogs and they're too hiper but they're also very good watch dogs and very playful.

I don't think so! I have 2 labradors, yellow and black and it has nothing to do with their colors. Labradors are one of the easiest dogs to train and they are perfect as a family pet! They are very good with kids.

Dumb dogs become dumb when their trainer are dumb! lol

friendly, good with kids of all ages, easy to house break, easy to train, will follow you any where, will swim, catch a friz bee or tennis ball, i don't think that a stupid dog would or could do all of the things a choc lab can do. now i have had a stupid dog it was part beagle this dog was either stupid or just down right retarded. you would train it and have to retrain it the next day, over and over ,and over ..... he didn't retain any thing i ever taught him. i love my lab

I have known some dumb ones, but generally all labs are fairly intelligent, regardless of color.
