Differnt cultures have different answers. In the U.S. we say seven, but South Americans consider North and South America to be one, and Africans do not consider Anartica to be a continent. I found this out many years ago sitting with a South American and an African when the question came up/

The continent of America is sometimes duvided into two..;I.E... North America and South America...this makes 7 as opposed to the usual 6...Hope this helps
