it's not worse, it has different affects. Smoking can cause cancer, and other related health problems. Your weight can cause heart and blood pressure problems as well as joint & back problems.

Actually recent research has shown that if you exercise and keep active, being fat is not worse than smoking. In fact, according to the AMA and the BMA, and articles that have been on the BBC News web site, if you are active, and 'fat' you are more likely to be healthy than if you are thin or of 'normal' weight if you do not exercise. It is when you are classified as Obese or above where you have problems.
Whereas smoking, passive or active, causes cancer, heart disease, and a large number of other things including cot deaths in babies who's mothers either smoked or breathed in smoke passively.

I think it's all relative. If you're a couple of pounds over or you're smoking a few cigs, then neither will cause any problems. If you chain smoke or are overfat, then you're more likely to have a problem. (By overfat I mean no muscle, even if at the correct weight).
I'm sure there are other contributing factors as well.
i.e. smoking plus drinking
or overeating plus sedentary lifestyle
overeating plus stress
etc.

Yes. height 5'10", 3 years ago was 207 lbs, now 160. So MANY bad side effects of being overweight, and our culture acts like they are inevitable consequences of living. The good news is that people can choose to "quit" being overweight just like they can choose to quite smoking.

I think it's debateable, it also depends on the two comparisons, if someone smokes 80 cigarettes per day, it is certainly not worse than being 15lb overweight. Everything is relative.
