God is a loving god (like a father). He believes in punishment, but has the enemy carry it out. One should be afraid of God's power, which He can use to WIPE YOU OUT.

Being scared that God may punnish you is where a lot of people start. However, God is infinately more complex than our megar moralities may fathom.
Will God strike you with lightning, or give you a nasty disease directly because you screwed up? Read the book of Job in the Old Testament and see what you think.
If you stick you finger into a live light socket you will get shocked. Do you "fear" electricity, then? Fearing God is similar, it's a healthy respect for the potential.
On the other hand, if you are a believer, God will discipline you, correct you, train you.
"And you have forgotten that word of encouragement that addresses you as sons:
"My son, do not make light of the Lord's discipline,
and do not lose heart when he rebukes you,
6because the Lord disciplines those he loves,
and he punishes everyone he accepts as a son."
Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father?"
(Hebrews 12:6 Prov. 3:11,12)
This discipline is not administered as punnishment, but more in the motive as refinement or training. Football coaches train their teams with hard drills and physically difficult exercises that look like punnishment, but they are designed to make a better football player.
The real punnishment, or "Wrath" of God is when he withdraws his attention from you and lets you have your own way.

It depends on the person. Some still believe in Hell and brimstone, others think God is more tolerant. Personally I've
never seen why the Supreme Being of the Universe would care about the little things Christians call sins.
By the way,you don't have to be religious to have a conscience.

Do you consider yourself to be a good person? Most people do. Of all the questions you will ask yourself in life, probably the most important is, Am I good enough to go to Heaven? Let's see if you are! Have you ever lied (even once--fibs, white lies, etc.)? Ever stolen (anything--the value is irrelevant)? Jesus said, "Whoever looks upon a woman to lust after her, has committed adultery already with her in his heart." Have you ever looked with lust? If you have said "Yes" to these three questions, by your own admission, you are a lying, thieving, adulterer at heart; and we've only looked at three of the Ten Commandments. That's how God sees you. Nothing is hid from His holy eyes. . He will even judge our words and thoughts. Will you be innocent or guilty on the Day of Judgment? Perhaps you think that God is good, and will therefore overlook your sins. But it is His goodness that will make sure that murderers, rapists, thieves, liars, fornicators etc. receive justice. God is just and He will punish all the wicked and evildoers... The wages of sin is death and God's Law demands justice, and the penalty for sinning against Him is death and Hell.

Your conscience can mislead you. Only God's Spirit in you can lead you in the truth. God will punish wrong, maybe not now, but sometime. A man's heart is corrupt without God so don't follow your heart to far!

the bad that people do gets human punishments by laws created by humans. as humans created gods to set laws and rules back in the day, and if you didn't believe, you got popped. wouldn't you be scared if you knew you were gonna die if you didn't believe. YES YOU WOULD. I'm just glad I wasn't born back then. you weren't allowed to have a conscience without say so.

"if we believe GOD we should act according to our moral conscience"
no. if we believe God, we obey His rules and expect His blessings.
what's the reason to go around and be afraid of God's punishment all the time? just to get to funny farm?
righteous person has nothing to be afraid of (righteous doesn't mean sinless). righteous person is the one to obey God's rules. so... see from the beginning.

You are not right in your statement. God said we reap what we sow. What ever a man does their will be consequences for the actions. If you believe in Jesus and you sleep with someone you will probably get pregnant.
The bible also makes it clear that if a believer continues sinning and becomes a stumbling block for others God will remove him so he will no longer a stumbling block.
In Romans Paul addresses those who have accepted Jesus as their savior continuing in sin. "Shall we continue in sin? God forbid".

Okay, let me see if I can explain this.
GOD = Heavenly Father ---What do good father's do?
1. They love their children
2. They teach their children to be obedient
3. They teach their children how to be responsible
4. They teach their children how to trust in them for guidance
5. They teach their children how to handle money
6. They discipline their children when children are disobedient
7. They punish their children for calling family names
8. They punish their children when children throw tantrums
9. They reward their children with "blessings" when well behaved
10. They reward their children when children help others
11. They reward their children when children are generous to those who are poor, hungry, and homeless.
12. They want their children to love them.
13. They are sad when their children are sad
14. They are angry if their children are unruly and lazy
15. They will not hold back their anger for very long if the children continue to be disobedient, unruly, selfish, do things that are against their father's rules, and if the lie, cheat, steal, or are insult or mock their fathers.
So, can you tell me----how different is our Heavenly Father than how we see good Earthly fathers?

God is our father, and like a father we should have a "fear" or respect for him. As humans we can never be perfect and we should have the faith that he will forgive us by his grace. We have to be truely sorry for what we have done wrong and ask for forgiveness or we are just punishing ourselves.
