"Those who play with fire pee in the bed".

Who said it first and WHY was it invented?

I think its hilarious and very incorrect...
[has it ever happened to you when you were playing with fire? be honest!]

It's not so much a saying as an "old wives tale." Old wives tales are threats that get kids to behave in a certain way. It's very dangerous to play with fire, and it's hard to explain to a child exactly why. Not only might they destroy property, but they could hurt themselves and others.

No kid wants to wet the bed. It's a sign of still being a baby, it's icky, and their friends will tease them, so the threat of wetting the bed is a good deterrent.
