A friend of mine did some research on the internet on prices and found that he could get his 65" HD-ILA set for about $1000 cheaper than Circuit City or Best Buy. I think he did the price checking on shopping.com Just take a minute and search for "plasma" there and see the price ranges you get.

Keep in mind that buying a set in a retail store, you're most likely going to pay between 15% and 30% more for the convenience factor. Check out the prices online and call around for stores that have the set on display so you can play around with it before you buy it.

Also, if you have a Sam's Club or Costco membership, sometimes they have some good deals too. Their return policy is usually better than the retail stores too.

Hope this helps.

You REALLY want to make sure you're buying from an authorized retailer and not some crazy guy in New Jersey who's getting his stuff off the back of trucks but has a great looking website.

Do not buy from Ebay for the same reason (unless you buy the additional N.E.W. warranty that guarantees the 1st year warranty).

I used to love going into Best Buy twice a week during my lunch and walking down all the aisles looking for a great open item deal (Until my infamous "Drink not allowed" scandal of '05. Check out the Lake Forest, CA Best Buy some day, they have the "No Drink Allowed" sign right in the middle of the door, that's cuz of me, baby!)

Abt electronics is a little known regional dealer that has pretty good deals and free shipping. Link is below. Some other regional companies are listed as well.

(Abt is Illinois area, Tweeter was mainly in New England area, but they're expanding, Conns is big in Texas, HH Gregg is big in Indiana)

Most stores like Circuit City or Best But have price-matching policies. At this point between the two I would go for Circuit City, as I think they have better service. You can probably get it cheaper from a net retailer, even with shipping included. I would recommend against that for a TV, since if you have any problems with the set, it is much more difficult to deal with a distant supplier. Also, if you buy from your local store, they will install it and see that it works.

You always want to buy your major purchases at a reputable well known business that has clear warranties and return policies. When you are spending that much money you dont want to go searching for the cheapest place and come home with a piece of crap...stick to best buy, pc richards or circuit city.

With a $2,200.00 budget you can get mostly 42" sets from Samsung Model# HP-S4253, Hitachi Ultravision Model# 42HDS69, LG Model# 42PC3D, Vizio Model# 42HDTV. And the 50" Vizio Model# 50HDM which cost $1,899.99 sold only at Costco. I encourage you to shop online, you get better prices, plus you don't have to pay sales tax if you don't live in the same state where the e-tailer is located.

The best of the best:

http://www.brandsmartusa.com Local retailer in South Florida and Metro Atlanta. They don't sell online, for the best prices, which are ALWAYS lower than their ads, you most visit one of their stores.

http://www.Onecall.com The e-tailer arm of Washington's Huppin's Hi-Fi. No sales tax, except for residents of Washington and West Virginia.

http://www.CircuitCity.com

http://www.Jr.com NYC superstore, no sales tax outside New York.
