On my way to work this morning, I saw a young, about 8 mo old golden retriever pup in the ditch along side the road, and being me, I turned around to check it out. I know where the pup resides, as this one and another one is allowed to roam free, and I see them nearly every morning on my way to work. But, anyway, I picked him up, and his back legs just dangled, I was putting him in my car when a man told me he knew who's dog it was, so I carried the pup over to the house, and another kid (okay 20ish) came out and said who's dog it was. He went into wake him, and the person said "whatever" and wasn't even willing to get his butt out of bed and check out the dog. I didn't take the dog, as since the owner had claimed it, I had no legal right, but I immediatly called animal control, who came right over. I guess then the person denyed it being his dog at all. So, now the poor thing is at the vet clinic. I offered to pay for x-rays to see if the dog can be saved by I have my doubts.

Not really a question - more venting. Everyone please keep good thoughts for this little guy. You should have seen those eyes begging for my help this morning. Some people deserve exactly how much they give - I am sure the person who owned that dog will have his day

Just to let all of you who responded so kindly know, the little girl didn't make it. She had a fractured spine, and it was decided it would be in her best interest to put her to sleep. She's comfortable now.

I think that you are an awesome person for doing that. And it is not your dog nor your responsibility to care for it but nice of you for offering to do so. Remember the good saying "what goes around comes around". And yes I hope this guy gets what he deserves. Oh and if you see the other pup running around call animal control to get it picked up too. Doesn't sound like this jerk needs to have any pets since he won't take proper care of them.

bugsnme2, Thanks for being a responsible human.
Truthteller, you're right, a dog is just a dog. If you feel that way, then you should know that about yourself, and realize that you are not a good candidate for pet ownership.
If you feel that way, and own a pet anyway, then I think you're an idiot. As a pet owner you have to assume responsibility for all of your pets needs. You shouldn't take on the responsibility if your the kind of a$$ who would allow your animal to get hit by a car, and then just say too bad, it's just an animal.
The point is don't own one if you don't care. I'm pretty darn certain that the point was not that more attention should not be paid to other issues, child abuse, homelessness, poverty, take your pick.
No poo on you, but I think this was just one person relaying a story, and others responding to that story with sympathy.
Somebody pee on your Wheaties?

I understand exactly where truthteller is coming from. I'm not saying that we shouldn't care about animals at all, I mean, I work at a vet and hope to get into vet school soon, but people are so concerned about the starving animals and don't do anything about the thousands and thousands of people starving on the other side of the world.
I am glad that animal control responded so quickly, i have read of so many instances where someone has had to basically steal a dog since animal control won't do anything about it.

That was a very kind thing of you to do in offering to pay for the x-rays for a pup that wasn't even yours to begin with. The owner probably denied having the dog because in some states it is considered a crime to leave their animal in the condition that this one was found in.

Yea people suck sometimes but it's also people like you who keep some amount of hope in my heart with the realization that not all of us are bad.

You did the right thing people sometimes can be so cruel and mean good for you I will keep the faith the dog will be OK I work at my aunts shelter which is also a kennel and rescue service so I know how people are so as long as there are people like you out there making differences then that makes me feel better knowing that maybe that dog will be OK because of you take care you did the right thing.

That is so sad! Some people are just so cruel sometimes. My family has found a dog twice and every time we get it he seems so nice but he is really dirty. When we call the number on his tag, the owners don't sound too happy to get it, and when they came to pick him up, he crouched down when the guy picked him up like he was going to slap him it is so sad that people get these beutiful, wonderful creature and torture them and don't love them like they should be loved! I hope that you can have this dog healed so you can keep him and both of you can have a great friend. I have a golden and he is totally my best best friend. best wishes!

Awww, that is so sad!!

A neighbor of mine was driving down the interstate (late at night/early morning on her way home from work as a nurse) and noticed a box in the middle of the road. She pulled off to the breakdown lane and retrived the box. In it was the cutest puppy ever. Lucky thing wasn't even hurt!!

If the pup does pull through, see if you can adopt it!!

It is the same kind of person who will dump a littler of puppies or kittens...I am feeding a litter of teeny kittens that were left in a bag way out on the rocky jetty in the harbor.
They are too skittish to catch, yet..so, I run down to leave food and fresh water daily.... they just left them there, where any pedator can get them, and no water other than the ocean..Some have fallen in, as they are crusted with salt water..I only hope that i can get them in to a live trap before they fall in and wash out to sea.
I just can't believe that humans can be so inhumane.

It's nice to know that there are some decent people who will take time out of their busy schedules to help--and so sad that there are others that are so selfish and cruel
