I am so glad you asked this question. There are probably going to be various answers, but as a teacher I would like to advise that you LIMIT as much as possible the tv animal for your child. Too many people (not you) use this instrument as a 'baby sitter'. A two year old cannot process what is really happening on that screen. Now - I do admit there are several programs that are entertaining and condusive for young people, but to be honest - there is nothing on tv that I believe a two year old can relate to. As mother, I'd want to teach my child with my own voice and hands. Words, numbers, colors, all that - can be taught by you. As he gets older - and can understand language a little more - you can introduce him to some of the PBS children shows that 'teach'. TEACH . Get yourself some good books for a two year old. Sit down in the middle of the floor and spend about 30 minutes a day (mommy and son time) teaching him something - music, reading to him, words - number cards, letters, colors, drawing - peg boards- anything where he can hear your voice and learn to speak from the words you speak.

I would venture to say that it would be up to the common sense of the parent to decide how much tv your child should watch and to make sure that the programs are appropriate but common sense woudl suggest that a two year old should not be watching more that one 1/2 an hour program a day. More than that and you are taking away from the childs sense of discovery of the world around him/her self. You are also taking away form the childs time with you! You must also remember that a child of two has an attention span that does not allow for long times at one project.

I give me 3 year old about an 1/2 to an hour in the morning and an 1 about in the after and or movies it varries. I would say not more then 3 1/2- 4 hours. Remember what you start now is when it starts. So if you give your child unlimited tv then it will be hard to break that. If your child is limited it will go smooter because then that's what they'll know.

NO more than 15 minutes twice a day. Two year olds have lots of learning about their world to do. TV is no help with that.

I would have to say no more than two hours for your child's mind is absorbant of anything they see. For example if you talk on the phone while driving chances are your child will learn that from you and as they grow up they'll develope that habbit. The same thing goes for T.V. So keep an eye on what is on the screen that YOU feel is not acceptable for your child.

I work with children and I'd say no more than two hours. television doesn't allow your child to think or develop his brain (if it is regular tv) but some channels like discovery kids are very good and interact a lot with children, gives them the opportunity to reason about topics and even answer their questions, so I guess it depends on what you are putting him to watch, but no more than 2 hrss

I let my son watch Sesame Streeet in the morning and then later in the day he watches Pooh DVDs while I cook dinner. I also have a video that encourages lots of movement. When I put that on, he's dancing around everywhere!

it would be a waste to get cable in case you basically watch approximately 5 shows. young ones many times watch a lot of television. i'm consistently on line because of the fact i don't have money to circulate everywhere and it quite is summer season. i'm suggesting to my mom to decrease off my cable on account that I on no account watch it different than Degrassi which I save lacking and award shows, which I omit and finally end up gazing on line besides. additionally my Korean dramas that i can basically see on line with English subtitles. Why do not you time the shows? 5 shows= approximately 5 hours each and every week top? on account that maximum are an hour long. possibly in case you have acquaintances who come to make certain you many times then you extremely will need cable. yet you look as in case you would be exceptionally busy. in case you may watch it on line then do it. it form of sounds such as you like us to assert are not getting cable. on account which you're putting greater motives so which you will not get cable like which you would be focusing on college paintings and stuff that's not television. in simple terms save on with your computer.

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has even gone so far as to recommend that kids under 2 watch no TV at all, and that all other kids be limited to one to two hours of age-appropriate "screen time" a day.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Remember that "screen time" includes TV, videos, computer games, etc.

I would also recommend you check out Jim Trelease's web site. He is the author of "The Read-Aloud Handbook." It's an excellent resource for parents. You can view excerpts of the book at his site.
