I really don't want anyone getting into the old 'what is better' debate, I just wanna know what would be the best option for me to spend my hard earned cash on.

I do need one as someone spilled paint onto my 32" CRT!

Oh yeah, I'm not a Sony fanboy. So the 'Some Where Outside of New York' make is outta the question.

as there are not many hd channels and dvds about get yourself a cheap 32" replacement for the one you have
give it 2 or 3 years they will have dropped in price and there will more hd channels and dvds to buy
i personally think at present they are over priced and not worth the money

Plasma is best my friend...these are the reasons why

LCD is what we call backlit...(the is a light projecting forward to produce the picture)
Plasma there is no backlit situation so the blacks are blacker and over the last few years samsung and hitachi have been producing exceptional Plasma screens and the longjevity has quadrupled...
added to this panasonic screens are made by samsung...so dont go the the monkey speak to the organ grinder.

Anything that's from Sony. I bought a 55" Sony LCD and it rocks I feel like slaping the shi.t out of a lion when I'm watching discovery channel, you feel like you're in there.

Panasonic for sure. You will find the picture much better than you ever got on your CRT, even if you don't watch HDTV. DVDs will look great.
