It is generally believed by Abrahamic religions (Judaism, Islam, Christianity) that man is the only animal on Earth with an immortal soul (please correct me if I'm wrong). If billions upon billions of other creatures are allowed to live and die with neither salvation nor comdemnation, why is it so hard to believe that there is any other purpose for humans than to live, multiply, and die?

I agree that our time on Earth should be well spent, but also that a good deed is it's own reward. If I can help someone, it's because it's the right thing to do, not because I think it will get me a free pass into Heaven.

There's more to life than living, multiplying, and dying. Humanists and many atheists believe that each person can invest his or her own life with meaning. Much of life truly is what we make it.

Because it is the general belief in those religions that God said we DID have a soul to save, and that the animals did not. It is the general belief that man was created with even more favor than the angels, in those religions, and hence had the opportunity, free will, to inherit the kingdom of God.

So, no, to those religions, whose main basis IS the sould, and heaven, and hell, it is not a plausible argument.

particularly when you realize that the "food chain" requires a string of animals being ground up raw and alive and in great pain when they die; remember a frog eats a fly a gull eats a frog, a bobcat eats a gull, well u get the idea. Imagine, maybe God grinds up people by letting the angels have them for dinner LOL its the food chain.
