I keep hearing muslims saying that they believe that Jesus was a great prophet in a long line of prophets, but muslims seem to believe the very opposite of many of the things Jesus taught. for example, Jesus taught that marriage should be between only one man and woman, while muslims believe in men having four wives. Jesus was totally against divorce, while Islam permits it. Jesus taught there is no marriage in Heaven, while muslims believe men are rewarded in Heaven with multiple virgin brides. Jesus preached love and forgiveness of everyone, including ones enemies, but muslims believe in vengeance. There are many more examples, but these should illustrate the point of the question.

Jesus is indeed a highly respectable prophet in Islam. And I don't see that Islam teaches quite opposite to what Jesus taught. I'll try my best to illustrate what Islam actually teaches:

1. Polygamy: There is an age-old consensus among Muslims that concludes that polygamy is permissible. The condition which Islam lays down for permitting a man to have more than one wife is that he has confidence on his part that he will be able to deal equitably with his wives in the matter of providing food, housing, clothing, and expenses, and that he will also be able to divide his time between them. Any man who doubts that he will be able to fulfill all these obligations with justice and equality would be prohibited by Allah Almighty from marrying more than one woman. Further, a Muslim is prohibited to abuse this right. For Muslims living in non-Muslim lands, polygamy may not be practiced if it is illegal in a person's country of residence. So a Muslim living in those countries has to abide by such laws and not to violate them as long as he resides in that country. In reality, Muslim men who marry more than one is a few minority. It is really hard to find one who have more than one wife, let alone four.

2. Divorce: It is the least likable permissible thing in islam. Moreover, it has conditions. Only in certaing situations divorce can be given. A man must not divorce his wife to bring harm upon his wife. Our prophet said, "Among lawful things, divorce is most hated by Allah". Divorce can be saught on such matters:

a) Physical, mental, or emotional abuse or torture.
b) Failure to fulfill the objectives and purposes for which marriage was initiated.
c) Marital infidelity.
d) Failure of the husband to provide.

Islam is not such that it only says "This is permissible & that is not:" Islam enjoined all rulings & conditions depending on situations. In reality, divorce is widespread in Western countries. Take a look at celebrities, they get divorced so many times. So they are doing just opposite to what Jesus taught them. But in Muslims, even divorce happens in certain conditions, they are not doing anything against Islamic laws. So who is right? Tell me?

3. In heaven there is no worldly rulings. It is stated that in Heaven everyone will get whatever s/he wants. Again, a good Muslim will enter Heaven & may live with his wife.

4. Jesus taught love & forgiveness. Alright. But who told Muslims believe in vengeance? In the then Arabia, the enemies always tried to hold back Islam & kill Muhammad. They were mostly idol worshippers & polytheists. They were only attacked when they attacked Muslims for no valid reason. Islam definitely has it's right to defend itself. People nowadays question that Muhammad led wars so how can islam be peacefull. But they hardly want to know who were they & what they did to Islam. Again, when Muhammad returned Mecca from Medina, the treacherous enemies were captivated & he was asked what to do with them. Prophet Muhammad said, "they are forgiven." while they deserved death punishment. This thing depends on situations. Take a look at what happened to Jesus. He is considered as son of God. But he lived only 33 years. He was killed by people. Even being a son of God he couldn't save himself, nor even God saved him. So can I ask you something? Does christianity teach way too much love & forgiveness to hide this failure? Jesus's incapability turned into forgiveness? (I hope not) (note: We Muslims don't believe him as son of God so it's different for us) In reality, look at what western powers are doing. That don't seem like love & forgiveness does that??

Anyway, I hope you read my answer carefully. Hope it helps.

I'll be in trouble for this one - I can hear the fatwa brewing now!

Before he became a prophet, Mohammed was a member of the Nestorian church. This was an offshoot from the Aryan heresy. Nestorians believed that Jesus was a prophet, but not that he was God. They also had their own gospel, rejected the four gospels used by mainstream Christianity. This had Jesus born in the desert, not in Bethlehem and had more miracles but less teaching.

This helps to explain why there are many similarities between Christianity and Islam, but also why there are many differences.

BTW, muslims don't believe in vengeance any more than Christians. They believe in a merciful God and that all muslims should show mercy, even to their enemies.

From time to time, God visits his people and provides the same message. Love one another. Forgive your enemies. Don't exploit others. Then man comes along, turns the teaching into a religion and uses this as an excuse to do the opposite.

First of all, I assume the Jesus you are talking about is from the Bible. The Bible was written by man, even the Christian experts themselves claim the don't know who wrote the New Testament, and it wasn't written by God (although it is claimed that it is "god breathed). Muslims believe that the true message of Jesus was corrupted.

The other thing, you said, quote:
"but muslims believe in vengeance."
unquote. We don't. I dare you to show a Koranic verse or an authentic hadith on vengeance. And I don't know where you got the "multiple virgin brides" idea, but it certainly didn't come from the Koran.

Conclusion:
You can't base Jesus on the Bible, and please read the Koran first before you make assumptions on Islam, or you'll end up making a fool of yourself.

They do not believe Jesus was a prophet. They have now picked on this point as they are under threat from the rest of the world.

The world has caught up with their violent activities and therefore the muslims have to latch on to something or someone as a safety net. Because Islam originates in the middle east, it is easy to start finding connections and similarities now.

Muslims are supposed to believe in only Allah's teachings and the prophet of Islam - Mohammad. No one else. Everyone else is a kaffir.

So dont believe the muslims. They do not even deserve that much courtesy from us as they have killed too many in the name of Allah.

The prophet of islam banished or killed everyone who did not believe in Islam. That is why Saudi Arabia and the muslims states do not have non muslims in them. It is only in the last few years that things are appearing to change as they do not want to be punished for their criminal activities.

Can you imagine having to live in a world where the criminals are not punished but go around proudly having won the crooked game once more?

Rebuttal. Adam named all the animals. and he being the first man, is the first prophet. Yet we no longer call the animals the same thing. So we are not follwoing the teachings of adam. The dictates of Moses said don't eat pork. yet we eat it, so we are not following those teaching. Why? Because new prophets come and change the old rules.
Jesus was a little to idealistic for the pre islamic tribes. and Mohammed ( please excuse my spelling) understood that men are men first and have natures that could never live up to jesus's standards of non violence / turn the other cheek.

crazy s, your name really does suit you because the things you are spewing make you seem like nothing but a crazy man/woman.

Muslims never believed in Jesus? That we call him a prophet now to "fit in with times"? What bullcrap is that? Did you know that to be a Muslim, you must believe in three things? That 1) There is only one God, 2) Muhamad is the last prophet, and 3) Jesus is also a prophet? There is this little book called the Qur'an. I suggest you pick it up and read it before you sound any more like an unlearned idiot. In fact, why don't you start with the chapter entitled "Maryam" (Mary)? Not even Muhamad's own mother got a section dedicated to her in the Qur'an and Mary (Jesus's mother) got an entire chapter of 98 verses in her name.

The things that Jesus supposedly preached in the bible are not what we Muslims believe. Jesus "allowed" wine to be drank, but Muhamad forbade it. Jesus supposedly says to God "why have you forsaken me?" and Muhamad tells us that to say something like that is to disbelieve in Divine Destiny, and therefore consequently disbelieve in God. I could pull up more things, but I'm running late as it is.

"Muhamad had 36 wives". What a bunch of crock. If Muhamad had 36 wives, then the Jesus of the Christians is nothing more than a greedy man claiming divinity to get people to worship him.

You say that Jesus preached love, but why does the bible itself contain so much violence and bloodshed? Read your own book before you try to find errors in other books. Like I said before, to find fault in other people's faiths is to have a weakness in your own.

They believe, as some Christians and Jews do, that the followers of Jesus distorted his message, added falsehoods to the "historical" record, and perverted his teachings into idolatry.

Thomas Jefferson and others among the founding generation of the United States shared this belief.

(NO offense) Islam is a FALSE religion> they deny Christ as divine therefore they deny God the father also! (This is known as the spirit of the anti-christ) They "claim" that the gospels were changed and the mohammad "corrected" the true teachings..they have NO proof of this..we have gospel manuscripts dating to 125 a.d. that validate modern New testaments! These were like 500 years before Islam began!!

Muslims believe the Judeo-Christian Bible has been distorted from the True Word of God. They somehow conveniently overlook the contradictions in the Koran which are far more numerous than "supposed" contradictions in the Bible.
