It does not have a writting program. Does anybody know if I can download a good writting program for FREE? I also want to journal.

You may just need to invest in the Office suite. It has Word, Excel, Powerpoint, Acess...maybe something else...
If you are going to college, you will definitely need Word and Powerpoint. With an edication disocunt the whole thing should be less than $200, and you may even be able to finance it through your school.

School or College? If college call them up since most of them sell computers on campus and then speak to them. Sometimes they have a website and check out their prices.
For example at UCSD Microsoft Office 2004 runs for 149.99 and Office 2003 runs for 139.99 it will give you all that you need. If you are not a college student find a friend or relative who is and get the discount.
If you are near and Apple store stop by there and see what you need to get a student discount.

That's where they sell software. It depends on the year of your labtop, but some of the software is cheaper than others.
