Sure it would! I lived in Europe for a while, and that was the law everywhere I went .. an apartment or house of X square feet could house X amount of people ... excellent idea ....:)

I'm not sure that would help a lot. Have you considered that some families don't have enough money to afford a 2 or 3 bedroom apartment? A limit would be good, but you can't make it that every child over 12 must have their own bedroom. What if a family that only earns a total of $1,000 each month have 4 kids with a 16 year old, a 14 year old, a 13 year old, and a 6 year old? they need AT LEAST 4 bedrooms, but they may be only able to afford 1.how about limits, like 3 people per room?

This is already a law where I live but no one enforces it.
Child welfare says girls and boys over the age of 5 must have there own "space" or privacy area to sleep in/change clothes.
I think if this were actually enforced it would help.
It isn't just the ILLEGALS that do this, either.
I know LEGALS and good old AMERICANS that are forced into this over crowding situation because housing just isn't affordable and child care is too expensive.
It almost doesn't pay to work outside the home because of these 2 expenses alone.
No one wants to pay more than minimum wage with benefits if they can get cheap labor.Where I live the schools won't even hire permanant employees.
We are all either subs or "temporary" so they don't have to pay bennies or full wages for these jobs.

The only thing that will help the illegal immigration problem is to secure the borders.
As for your question, I believe that currently those are issues that many subdivisions write into their homeowners deed restrictions. Private housing such as apartments always place a limit and demand all occupants are made responsible on a lease. I doubt if this type of thing would be handled by municipalities. And no, it would not help towns deal with the problem of illigal immigrations. Congress needs to crack down and get this issue resolved.

There are a few town that do this. My town limits the number of people in apartments to the number of bedrooms plus 1 (ex. 4 people would require a 3 bedroom apartment). I think it is an excellent idea if it is well enforced. Of course, I see it as more of a safety issue than an immigration one.

i know i my state children over 2 half to have their own room i found this out when my brother and his wife mover here with their child who at the time was one and the aparment or some one don't remember told them that any i agree to many people in one place dose make trouble in the future but i don't think we can make people homeless either. But i don't see how this is going to stop immigration i think i may hurt others i do know they do tend to invite their whole family to live in a 2 bedroom home but like i said this will hurt not just illegal immigrants but also hard working americans who can't afford more than they have.

I think that is a good idea. And it would help keep riff raff out of the places too not just illegals. There are 3 adults and 1 teenager living in the 1 bedroom apt next to mine? WTF, where do they all sleep?

Many localities already have residency ordinances, but hey, if you're in the country illegally to begin with, what do you care what your landlord thinks? LOL
