There are some flea shampoos that say you can at 12 weeks. Clean them really well with and rinse them very thoroughly, until their fur squeaks...lol BUT get a flea comb, they are super cheap, like 2.00 bucks. While you are rinsing them, if you spot a flea you can grab the little sucker with the comb and rinse it down the drain. What I do it get the sink faucet running at a good temp, scrub kitty, start rising and looking for the fleas to comb out. Then once kitty is dry , later on, take a baby wipe or wet paper towel and lay it next to you, then take the comb and with each brush through, wipe the comb. That way you can remove eggs and left over fleas that are dead or still alive. Be sure tho when you get a live flea squish that little sucker quick! That why I trap it with a baby wipe and start on murdering that flea lol cos they will jump quick! I have 3 three month kittens who are now completely flea and egg free. it took two baths..10 days apart and my handy ole flea comb..lol gl!
*edit* and no, my kittens didnt show any signs of being sick at all*

The only flea medications that I have found on the market are for kittens that weigh over 5 lbs. I suggest using Palmolive dish soap and giving them a bath. That will kill the fleas on them. You will need to try to brush off as many of the deads as possible and you will probably need to give them another bath in about a week or two. It really does work though. My cat had fleas when he was just a wee little kitty and that is what we did to him. Not to say that they really enjoy it but it is better than them getting bite by those darn fleas. Whatever you do, don't give them too many baths, it dries out their skin pretty easy.

so they're about 12 weeks old then. you should be able to use just about anything on them. make sure you read and follow the directions to avoid any overdosing. there is a shampoo that seriously is the best stuff out there. it's the prescription version of anything you get in the store. it's called mycodex with carbaryl. you get it from the vet and it kills on contact. just give them a bath in warm water and soap them up really good. then make sure they get rinsed off completely and you should see a HUGE improvement. make sure you get rid of them in your house too or it will only get bad again. if it's easier, do this
take them to the vet for a bath and see about a dip.
while their there, use foggers in your house, this kills the fleas in carpets....the vet shouldn't let you pick them up until they're dry so this gives you time to air out the house too.
ask the vet about frontline if it's ok to put on them. it takes a time or two to get a handle on the fleas but it works.

You can use Advantage which is their best bet. Flea shampoos do not kill fleas 100%. Consult with a vet first! Kittens that young should not be over-medicated, they will get very sick.

I would consult your vet, but I foster kittens and the vets at the animal shelter put advantage on the kittens and none of them every have a problem with it. I think Advantage is the safest when it comes to young animals.

putting flea medicines on kittens could kill them, take them to a vet and ask them advise on this.
you could try to give them a bath in warm mild soapy water, have a towel ready tho to put them in the towel right away to get them dry and warm.
Be careful not to get the soap in there eyes. LOL

I wash my cats in PertPlus (kills the adult fleas). I use PurrScriptions (can be found at PetSmart) http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441810360&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302025600&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023690&bmUID=1154109117185&itemNo=0&Ntt=PurrScriptions&In=All&previousText=PurrScriptions&N=2
Really cheap product, but works great. Found it works just as well as Frontline. (I've used both). Do not use flea soap, flea collars or flea powders on your pets as they irritate and burn the skin.
Might want to buy a CapStar pill http://www.1800petmeds.com/pselect.asp?LV=51&PG=Capstar for your cat. It is a flea pill that starts working within 24 hours. It is not something that you use every month. Our vet said just a couple of times a year when the flea drops need extra help.
Then, I would use a carpet powder aimed at destroying fleas. Sprinkle it liberally in all areas your cats have access to. Follow the directions on the can. Use Zodiac pet. http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441776070&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302033681&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023690&bmUID=1154109283278&itemNo=1&In=Cat&N=2033681&Ne=2
Then, for extra measure, if possible, I would treat the lawn surrounding the house. You can use a product like Virbac Yard Spray http://www.1800petmeds.com/pdetail.asp?SK=10649 It is very beneficial to treat the yard and house while treating the pet.
Treat every animal in your house. If you have a dog, use Zodiac pet on your dog http://www.petsmart.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441812955&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302032916&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302023689&bmUID=1154109722584&itemNo=9&In=Dog&N=2032916&Ne=2
Also, wash your bedding too. Fleas can travel on humans too. You want to get rid of the fleas on not only your pets, but from your house.

Frontline, available at most vets, you put the liquid on their backs and necks and it dries.
