Some people feel that racism is the real motivator here. Other countries are 10 times as strict as the US currently is on immigration laws. Why all the crying to protest even basic enforcement on immigration law? Do people think it's a witch-hunt etc?

It's not about race it's about class, It is completely natural for humans to migrate to better living conditions how do you think the world became populated from Africa.

The problem is selfish rich employers who do not want to pay fair and decent wages, It is illegal to HIRE a person who does not have an ID and Social Security Card, All new hires are supposed to be reported to the SS Administration, While background checks are not mandatory why do American Citizens have to complete one as a new hire but it is overlooked by unscrupulous employers?

Then the fun begins those in the socio economic class fight each other over crumbs while the wealthy continue to get wealthier.

You want to be angry be angry with your Lying A** politicians who will not secure our borders or require employers to abide by existing employment laws, be angry with corporate CEO's who make 2000 times what their lower wage earners see then complain because there is a minimum wage. Who contribute more to those crooked lying a** politicians than some families annual salaries.

You want to kick the crap out of someone start with them not the poor slob who is just trying to feed his family the same as you are.

It isn't racist if you think that all imigrants from all countries should have to follow the law, and I don't think that there should be any illegal immigrants in this country, it isn't racist, I'd feel the same way about a Canadian, or a Japanese illegal immigrant as one from Mexico.
We really need to enfoce our laws, and really crack down on businesses that hire illegal immigrants. People getting paid under the table bring down wages, no matter what people say. If everyone had to hire people legally then some companies would have a harder time, some services would have a harder time but mostly it would mean more hard working people who are here legally will get paid a decent wage for decent work.
There aren't any jobs that "americans" won't do, the problem is there are jobs that americans won't do at the wages being offered, dangerous jobs have to pay well and finding people who feel like a dangerous job is their only option isn't fare to anyone.

I don't feel that it's racism at all. There has to be a process along with a system of checks and balances or the country would be in chaos. I read somewhere that they are giving thought to allowing illegal immigrants access to social security benefits. I'm totally against that. It's bad enough that a person my age won't even have a Social Security to draw from, now we're going to give what I am currently paying in to people who don't even have the common curtiousy to become citizens.

Don't get me wrong... I think if people want to live the american dream, they should be allowed the opportunity. Our country is a melting pot of diverse curltures. But, immigrants should have to go through the right channels to become legal citizens.

No, it is not racist in principle, even though racist people use the issue to their means.
It would be great if the US clarified it's immigration laws and policies in accordance to it's real needs, so that immigrants in need and needed there (demand is the beggining of this affair), could stop being illegal, paid all the taxes, and got fair wages and beneffits. I would bet my life that most would return to Mexico eventually. And also enforcement would be easier, since US citizens wouldn't need to cheat their own laws to get thw workers they need and would not get otherwise.
And you are right, even Mexico is stricter than the US, again in principle because the law is not allways applied. You could easily come and stay here, and probably get one of the few (in proportion) good jobs.

I do not think that enforcing laws to prevent mass migration (and the economic burden of refugee-like movement into the USA) is inherently racist. It's absolutely necessary and right. But honestly - and I'm a whitey here - I feel an undertone of racism in recent dialog about the illegal immigration issue. It seems to me that there are some Americans who use the immigration issue to vent their dislike of the "dirty Mexican". It sucks because it detracts from the real merits of immigration reform, but it's there.

It's very easy to interject racist tones into the immigration debate. This often accomplished by targeting the immigrants, as though attempting to live a better life were a crime.

I often feel that the debate turns racist because anti-immigration advocates ignore the economic contributions of low-wage immigrant labor and take issue with the 'harm' immigrants cause society.

Enforcement is the angle of resolution that targets the immigrants, and perhaps the business owners. It does nothing to place the responsibility on the average american, the consumer, who creates the economic pressures that encourages immigration.

I would say the majority consensus is NO WE ARE NOT BEING RACIST!

I have said this repeatedly and am sick of being targeted as a racist.

This is about ILLEGALS
as in BREAKING THE LAW!!!!!!!!!!
I could care less what country they are from, what nationality they are,or whatever color of skin they have!!!!!!!!!!
THEY ARE CRIMINALS!
SOME people are having so much fun targeting all white people as racist when THEIR OWN PEOPLE CAN'T STAND THEM!
They make the LEGALS look bad and give them a bad name.
The LEGALS want them all to go away too!
It isn't a witch hunt. The PRO-ILLEGALS are the only ones actually targeting the MEXICANS.I would say they are the racists here not those of us standing up to say ILLEGALS GET OUT!
And there are quite a few crying about heritage and they have the right to be who they are.
BOO FREAKIN HOO!!!!!!
No one has said anything about forgetting where you came from or anything of the kind.
GET LEGAL OR GET THE HELL OUT!

Yes and no.

I think some people have some legitimate concerns and bring up good points-but it seems to me that most people are operating under the delusion of the stereo-types they have about Mexicans. Whether they realize it or not, it's their prejudice against Mexicans that fuels them for 'anti-immigration'

Personally...I don't think someone should have to go through so much red tape and beaurocracy to become a citizen. For instance...they have to have a birth certificate...well, in some countries, it is not feasible to get a birth certificate for various reasons. One of these things that makes this country great is how we expanded so much through immigration. We should except these new citizens with open arms. I think most people would become legal citizens if they could...most just want a decent job and want to bring their whole families here and build a life.

Economics is the prime motivator.

Because this economic situation benefitted 'everyone' for so long no one did any kind of enforcement.

I am from Texas - and I don't think a day went by that I didn't come in contact with an illegal. The same holds true for my husband up in Michigan. Now that we are in Florida - every day. Nebraska - every day.

When we talked about securing our borders - the Mexican border was the last thing thought of... Boy, it sure opened a huge can of worms.

People still really don't want to do anything about this situation except for ranch owners on the border. And that's because they are getting sued out the yin/yang and losing their land to illegals. Can you imagine...but it's true.

Not at all. Racism is a term which has been both abused and over used. Being agains illegal immigration is simply a matter of law. White, yellow, Black or Brown have nothing to do with it..
