Anthrax, also known as carbunclo in spanish, is an often deadly desease caused by a bacteria calles Bacillus antracis, a Gram positive rod that survives several environment conditions thanks to the capacity of create spores that can last over 50 years in dry soil . The source of infection are the spores, an the disease is commonly seen y in bovine and ovine cattle, less in pigs and horses, dogs and cats are succeptible too, and of course the human, wich turns this desease in to a zoonosis. The route of infection is mostly the digestive tract, provided that the spore resists de gastric acid, then the active form of the microorganism, also known as the ¨vegetative¨ form enters via linfatic vessels and nodes, gonig into rapid growth , and late via blood stream(bacteriemia) into de spleen, lungs, liver, etc., causing severe swelling, necrosis, multiple organ disfunction, and often death. The presentation in animals anhumans is often peraccute and accute. Other demonstrated routes of income are the respiratory tract, and in humans the skin, causing an eritematous lesion, easy recognizable by a trained phisician. The bacteria are sensible to large group of antibiotics, including penicilins, cephalosporins, and quinolones, although the success of the treatment depends on the severity of the presentation and the organ involvement, and of course de stage in wich it is diagnosed, the complications such as dissminated intravascular coagulation, organ disfunction, etc. There is a vaccine, used in cattle overall.

A disease caused by the bacterium Bascillus anthracis.
Since it is part of the bascillus family, it is able to produce near-impervious endospores which can be dried out and stored for over 40 years. This is why it is chosen as a biological warfare agent. It can be mass produced to use at a later date.
Anthrax infections have three forms:
Cutaneous anthrax - (most common) the bacteria enters the body through a break in the skin. A blister forms and gradually develops into a blackened crater. 80-90% of cases heal spontaneously. 10-20% reach the bloodstream and cause a fatal septicemia(blood infection).
Respiratory anthrax - the bacteria is breathed in causing mild repiratory symptoms which very quickly develops into septicemia and almost always leads to death.
Gastrointestinal anthrax - (very rare) the bacteria is ingested. This occurs when meat from an infected animal is eaten.

From Wikipedia~
Anthrax, also referred to as splenic fever, is an acute infectious disease caused by the bacteria Bacillus anthracis and is highly lethal in some forms. Anthrax most commonly occurs in wild and domestic herbivores, but it can also occur in humans when they are exposed to infected animals, tissue from infected animals, or high concentrations of anthrax spores. There are no known cases of infection in humans resulting from direct contact with a diseased person. The word anthrax is derived from the Greek word anthrakis, or "coal", in reference to the black skin lesions victims develop.
