Hi, I have a 9 week old puppy. Apparently my sister overfed my puppy. The vet said that we should give him a cupfull with the cup they provided us. My sister couldnt understand that he should eat that much, So my sister gave only HALF the cup. My puppie's belly got so big. It is like a balloon. What should I do?

Oh and, my sister did mention he was eating really fast. She says that it didnt look like he was chewing.Im just worried that he wont digest it because of the size. He is currently laying down and looks exhausted.

He'll probably be okay - he'll most likely throw up. If you're really worried, though, call your vet.

So I don't get it. Your sister overfed your puppy by giving it half as much as it was supposed to have? That doesn't make sense. Any way, if you have an over fed puppy, take it outside and let it do its thing that gets food out of all living things.

If your sister gave him only HALF the cup of food, then she UNDERfed him not OVERfed him. That means the puppy got less food than he should have.

So food may not be the reason your puppy's belly is so big. Call your vet.

He'll be fine, I give my puppies as much as they'll eat at each session...Like in the morning, I'll put a bowl of food out for them and theyll eat what they want, then I take the bowl away until the next meal and do the same....I'm glad you're concerned, it makes you a good puppy owner, but in this case, if he's just "full"...he's fine......
If his bloatedness doesn't subside however, he could have worms and you should take a stool sample to the vet.....Good luck !!

Now that you have him back, make sure that he gets enough to eat. My pups have never eaten too much, so hopefully more food now will make up for what he was lacking when he was with your sister. Not being a vet, though, I'm not sure how malnourisment affects puppies and if something more than feeding needs to be done. Will he eat now or does he seem sick?

Call the vet now! Your qustion is confusing, though. Sounds like your sister underfed the puppy. Tell the vet about the bloating in the tummy.

well, we have two dogs. one of them is two and the other is 12, but, i dont get how only feeding the dog 1/2 the cup will make him fat when u feed him the whole cup, but ur dog will be okay. the dog will eat untill its full. but later in its life, keep the house very clean. it WILL eat anything it can. my 2 year old dog ate furniture!!!! and everything loose on the ground. if the dog is still fat after a wile, start giving him less and less food untill he is back to the regular size.

hope this helps!!!

The puppy will be fine. Do not over water him and watch him for another hour or so. You can go to the vet if you wish and they will give him a very fast acting laxative... very fast.

Don't worry! your puppy will be okay. your puppies belly will be big for awhile from eating to much but nothing bad will happen. if he/she gets sick don't worry about that either. just try not to play to hard with the puppy till his/her food has a chance to digest.

dont worry. puppies tend to only eat until they are full. the only thing that might happen is your puppy will poop alot more, but that is all. dogs are a bit different than humans. i have two dogs one eats during the day one at night. so ileave the dry food out all day or night. they eat until they are full and stop eating.
