honestly, it is a major problem but it has been for yrs, it didn't happen overnight. but the gvmt., media, politicians, & hate groups have made it seem like they robbed every American one night while they were sleeping. this has been going on for decades, there is a huge problem w/our gvmt & how they implement laws/penalties-or lack there of- our border is wide open for WHOEVER-not only mexicans- to come here to do whatever. why is it that this is the greatest country, but we can't keep count or tabs of ppl who come in/out of here, get SS, get welfare-legal citizens too-, medical assistance, & so on. the middle class will soon b obselete if something doesn't change. the illegals here should stay, pay penalty & of course the fees for applications like in the past & then they should b on w/their lives. can u imagine how much revenue that would bring also? mostly, i think things should be done now, not in 08 & that goes for the war & gas prices.

Immigration is what settled this country not illegal immigration. People who immigrate illegally hurt all of the people who are trying to do it legally. I am not against immigration. I believe that the immigration problem should be handled in a series of steps. First the borders should be shut down to prevent any more illegal immigration. Second the immigration laws need to be changed. It should be easier to immigrate and shouldn't take 8 years or more. The processing time from most countries should be less than one year as long as the native country cooperates. Laws regarding businesses that hire illegal immigrants should be changed so that repeated offenses should result in escalating fines that will put the company out of business if they continue to defy the laws. The next law would be for any immigrant not yet a citizen who is convicted of a felony should be deported after serving their sentence with no future opportunity of returning. Only after these laws are in place can the illegal immigrants already here be dealt with but I think they should be fined heavily and have to apply for legal immigration status. Once all this is done anyone caught illegally in the country should be deported immediately with repeat offenders given long prison terms before being deported. HI - "america was built on illegal immegration" - Really? Which laws were broken to make it illegal immigration when the first immigrants from Europe arrived in America?

Illegal immigration is just that. Illegal. there are legal ways to enter this country. That is how it should be done. As for the people that are already here, the gov't is attempting to give some leeway to them instead of just throwing them out(as if that's possible) in mass. So they should take advantage of the offer. Not complain that it is to difficult or "not fair" It's not fair that they are here in the first place. It is a problem. We need them for the tax money they put into the system. It will help prop up social security and all the other gov't programs forced down our throats. That is one reason in my opinion that the gov't is even addressing the issue

I live in a boarder state so I feel the need to express my opinions about illegal immigration. I think the boarders need to be closed and more military officials placed on the boarder until this problem gets sorted out. The ones that do get picked up here have a background check ran on them before they get sent back to Mexico, and the majority of ones that come over the boarder are convicted sexual offenders and felons.

Illegal immigration is illegal. People who came over illegally should be documented, charged, tried, and convicted before getting sent back to Mexico. Illegal immigrants here already I feel should be denied all the rights that a citizen or someone who actually went through the proper channels to come into this country have until they go back to Mexico, and go through the proper channels to come here.

The reason illegals keep jumping the boarder is because they know people here will cater to them. They don't even have to learn english. They get free medical, food stamps, and social security checks. When my family was going through hard times and we actually needed help (legitimately, not like these illegals) we were told flat out to our faces by many government agencies that we were the wrong race, so they refused to help us.

You wanted my honest opinion.

the border should be open for people to come and go as they please. The northern border is like that why not the southern?? but honestly they do need to correct this big problem. but how we all ask??? Look some people have been here at least half their lives and have not gotten in to trouble and have had a steady job. So what should we do about them?? And most illegals do pay taxes at the end of the year and every day for that,at stores, duh. NOT ALL ILLEGALS ARE MEXICANS SO LETS GET THAT STRAIGHT FOR THE DUMB ***, that think that

Any illegal immigration is wrong-hence illegal! There are proper channels to go through, and if they are to slow for people then the same people should vote to have this process expedited. Only citizens of this country should have the right or the ability to decide this for themselves as a country!

This is a big problem! But to put it simple, Legal is Legal and Illegal is Illegal. Why can't people understand this? How can people justify something when it is ILLEGAL!!!!!

We need secure borders. The illegals aren't hurting anything.Give them amnesty. It was the demonstrations and the media that caused this national "outrage".
Anyone who seriously wants and actually thinks that the illegals are all going to be deported are delusional. It is absolutely absurd to believe that our government is going to deport 12-20 million ppl.

The mass coming in has caused "big" problems. We have named them here many times. We can not be the worlds problem solver as nice as that sounds. It just isn't possible.
All countries have laws-ours should be respected . If someone doesn't respect them they should not be allowed to stay.

Nice question-it is refreshing

a lot of hype, and a big problem. if it were a crisis we would really be dealing with it. no emotions involved, the law is the law. i understand wanting to come here, but why make the trip to look over your shoulder constanly, living like an outlaw? do it the right way, and live here in peace and prosperity.
