yes there are "religions" that abuse their own followers when they appear disobedient to their Diety! even are required to make a public display to gain trust of their peers! the weak ones must make the 'ultimate' show of belief(public death by suicide). This is nothing new, it's about 4000years old, just has gained a few twists in evolving!

Well, in some cases in under the old covenant God told the Israelites to 'take up arms,' and in the new testement Christ stated that 'those without a sword, sell your tunic and buy one.' Yet, we are to 'turn the other cheek if someone strikes you.' Judgement calls such as these depend on the situation I am sure, as in the saftey of yourself and your loved ones... There is a difference between self defense and 'lying in wait to murder.' As far as going out to kill others of different religions as in a jihad not so holy war, well of course the Bible states that the wheat and the tares remain until the end and are both plucked together, and the iron and the clay will endure until the very end... So who would we be to go kill in 'god's' name when the real God stated that we all will remain here until the end. The Word states that in the last days that, concerning Jesus's people, 'they will kill you and think that they are doing God a favor.' So when we ourselves are attacked by those of other religions to kill us in the name of their god... just know it fullfills God's prophecy.

In my way of thinking, a person of faith in God would not be thinking in any way to hurt or kill their neighbor. No person on this planet should kill another for any reason.
Now, with the current situation taking place in the middle east using the cause of religion to make their way the right way are never going to God for help. I don't see God anywhere in the middle east right now, but I see the devil and his minions working hard there.><>

No, it's not required of most if not all faith's. What's unfortunate is that they are required to attempt to convert others to their point of view/belief system and that's when they'll often take up the gun...That's to say if you continue to disagree we'll just do you in so that we have no opposing view. This is why in many religions questioning faith is such a BIG SIN. Heretics, Pagans, and others with individual views on the World burned for it. PEACE!

Some religions such as Islam have a Holy War. However, the Christian religion, with which I am affiliated, says differently. Jesus said to love one another. Now I have spoken to some Christians who actually believe that taking up arms is ok if you are trying to protect the country that supports freedom of religion where we are free to worship as you please. I, however, think that since Jesus wants us to believe in Him and lead others to HIm, that violence,no matter where you live will not do the job. You have to lead others to Christ in love.

It's solely up to what that person's particular faith requires of them. Fortunately, most require us to tolerate and love other beings (despite how people really act). You may be asked to take up arms against 'spiritual enemies' ultimately but in most cases, it is prohibited to harm fellow human beings, or i guess, all earthly creatures/entities.

Not in my Baptist religion. We're taught to love everyone despite their beliefs.
You may be referring to the Islamic Jihad. Some Muslim extremists cite references in the Koran that talk about slaying heathen enemies.

that's not how it goes in my religion (islam)
we are required to teach people what islam is through words and actions (and i dont mean terrorism or suicide bombings)
we dont get "score" for killing people.. murder is forbidden in islam if without proper cause (these are mentioned in Quran)
we tell people about it but we dont force anyone to convert, after all, everyone has a brain to know right from wrong and a heart to feel the truth.. if someone doesnt get convinced or doesnt feel it then fine

Every religion does. for those who say the bible or christianity does not promote killing those who don't believe, this is one of many genocidal verses.
"Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I remember that which Amalek did to Israel, how he laid wait for him in the way, when he came up from Egypt. Now go and smite Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and spare them not; but slay both man and woman, infant and suckling, ox and sheep, camel and ***." (I Samuel 15:2-3)

All major religions have a message of peace. It is human leaders who misinterpret and manipulate the masses to kill in the name of religion.
