First heat, then alternate with ice for inflammation. Take Alleve pills over the counter medicine, its a great anti-inflammatory. Start with two tabs , then follow bottle instructions. This should solve your problem. Take pills until pain has subsided then stop after a couple of more days. Good Luck!

Sleep the right way. Try adding more pillows. Maybe just 2 and not more then that if you have too many your neck will cramp. Sleep in another position.

stretch it out. Lean your head in which ever direction that it hurts and leave it like that for a minute or so. Kepp doing it everynow and then. You have a cramped neck because you pulled a muscle and the only way for it to feel better is to stretch it out.

roll your neck in a circle about 15 times. do some yoga stretches having to do with your neck and upper back. you can find a yoga video on pay perveiw. stretch, thats all i can say.
and next time try to sleep on your stomach or back, not your side. that can prevent neck cramps most of the time. :]
good luck!

Try Icy-Hot. It smells bad but it works really really good. Or just a regular heating pad if you don't want to stink. Sometimes taking a nice hot bath can help too. You can buy menthol bubble bath that soothes sore muscles.

yes, rub it to get the muscle relaxed again. Use a little suncream or facecream to make the rubbing smoother.

if you have two pillows, change to just one so that your neck isn't bent upwards when you are lying down. Lie on your back or side, not on your front.

go in a warmish - hot shower and let the water hit the back of your neck and move it around slowly and gently.

Only time will heal this wound, though a nice massage helps.
