My son's birthday is in a week. My mother in-law and I were e-mailing each other about toys. She told me she would keep anything she bought at her house because she doesn't want to get insulted when it gets thrown away. She then said she saw that my husband had thrown away one of the toys she bought for my son.
What I haven't mentioned is that the toy was 2 years old broke and my son didn't use it (She did not know any of this. She just assumed my husband put it in the trash because... I don't know why). I wrote her back and told her it was broke and that I was the one that threw it out. Do you think she responded to that? NO! I'm really mad. Do I have a right to be?

Of course as soon as I write this she writes me back. She has said sorry. I feel better, but I'm still a little angry she thought I would let my husband just toss my son's toys. Oh well, no time to be mad I have a party to plan.

You just can't please some people. Why waste your energy being mad? Focus on your son's birthday and if she wants to keep the toys at her house, so what. The kid'll change her mind if he likes them that much.

Yes, but the question is do u wanna be?? 1st of all once the toys r given to ur son they r his to do what he wishes and unfortunately they get broken and ruined all the time.. There would be no purpose of keeping them around especially if they r now useless..
u already told her why they were in the garbage, so don't keep explaining urself.. let her know that keeping whatever toys she buys for him @ her house is a good idea because then u don't have to pack anything for him when he goes there, cause he'll have toys already there..
that benefits u, because then there's less clutter and less toys that u'll have to pick up or throw out..
but if she brings it back up then let her know how u feel, let her know u were offended and that u and ur son cherish every gift they receive and that u wouldn't intentionally throw anything away that was still good..
and if she doesn't understand then hey u tried, but don't suck up...

I think you do. It's your child's toy, I think he should do what he pleases with it. If he wants it to be at his house why not it was a gift to him. It's also really none of her business what your husband throws away. It was pretty stupid of her to assume that you guys just threw it away to be mean or something like that.

Well yes and no. I mean people are very quick to assume and make an ***-u-me. Most of us assume without knowing. In this case let her know what exactly happen and tell her that it would be nice if she asked next time before she opens her mouth. Of course in a nice way to avoid any tension between you and your mother-in-law good lucK!

OF COURSE you have the right to be upset..because it seems like you've been blamed for something you didn't do!!
On the other hand i understand why your mother-in-law feels that way...yet, if you think you did your part by explaining "clearly" to her about it, then it's really up to her, and you don't have to worry about that.
Just make sure next time to throw the rubbish "8 miles away" :)

Yes, but it's just one of those things you have to get over and just let go. MIL's are so crazy sometimes. Just let her do what she's going to do, and ignore it. She's just being immature. For some reason they will do that- especially if your husband has ever been close with his mom. The MIL's feel like they need to do extreme things to vie for their son's attention now. Good Luck!
