Nevada, Colorado and Canada have oil locked up in shale (a type of rock). I believe in Colorado alone, there is more than a trillion barrels of oil locked up in the shale. There is an estimated 1 trillion barrels of oil in Nevada. The amount of energy it takes to unlock the oil is more than it takes to drill it. If the price of oil per barrel goes up high enough, it would become economically feasible to extract it.

When the oil runs out in the middle east, the price of oil will be high enough to make it feasible to extract and drill in the US.

Nevada and Colorado do have more oil deposits. Unfortunately it is "locked" up in shale sands which makes it very, very difficult to extract. At the present time it costs more to extract a barrel of oil from shale sands than that barrel of oil would sell for on the open market.
